Is there such a thing? Basically an electric/hybrid car (ideally estate) that fits three people inc 2 car seats in the back

In fact... is there a petrol estate that does this?

I have a mitsubishi outlander phev (hybrid) that fits three across the back. I've had my two kids in their car seats and then an adult in between a few times. It's not crazy spacious but we've done some journeys like that.

Not an estate but good size boot and interior. Probably bigger than a lot of estates.

Does 30miles on electric before engine kicks in.

We used to have a Citroen Grand Scenic which fitted 3 car seats across the back (was ‘cozy’ though) !

We swapped to a Nissan Elgrande as it was more fun.

Tesla Model X - loads of space

Suze1621 · 20/01/2020 20:29

Not electric but Cotroen C4 spacetourer has 3 full seats in the back, all with isofix.

Suze1621 · 20/01/2020 20:30

Citroen !

Model X is great

Breckenridged · 20/01/2020 21:04

Model X if it’s in budget!

Volvo XC90 has a plug in hybrid version. Easily fits 3 car seats across the back and has a mammoth boot. Only gets 15-20 miles on the battery though, so great around town but not environmentally friendly for distance driving.

PotteringAlong · 20/01/2020 21:08

My PiL have a Hyundai iqonic hybrid and can get 3 car seats for our 3 across the back (just!). 2 of those are HBB though.

I've just been doing loads of research into this, you're obviously facing the same dilemma.

There are very few options for electric or hybrid.
Volvo XC90, Tesla X, Lexus RXL are it! All £45k plus cars.

There are comparatively few that it's recommended to put three across at all, even with traditional engines eg the Honda CRV is just about big enough, but the middle seat is not 'licensed' as it were by NCAP. In seven seaters, the folding rear seats are often not suitable.

You're if it's to be three across you often end up with a seven seater anyway: looking at Ford S max/ galaxy, VW Touran/Sharan, Renault Grand Scenic, Audi Q7, BMW X5/2 grand tourer, Citroen Picasso, Seat Alhambra.
Newer ones are comparatively clean - Euro 6 is clean enough to be free in the ULEZ zone in London.

Linguaphile · 21/01/2020 22:01

Prius + will fit 4 car seats.

Heatingson · 21/01/2020 22:01

Tesla X and Tesla S are same width aren’t they rock?

Linguaphile · 21/01/2020 22:02

Sorry, typo, meant to say 3 car seats! Though as a 7 seater I suppose you could squeeze a booster into the dwarf row.

Hoggiek · 21/08/2020 20:41

I have a rav 4 and I am trying to fit three child car seats in. The middle seat buckle is raised about 4 inches out of the seat which is causing “buckle crunch” which is not permitted. However Toyota can’t solve my problem so hoping someone has a solution for us.

Nobblybobblies · 21/08/2020 20:44

I have the XC90 T8 which fits three across the back, I probably get 22 miles on electric alone. It’s better for shorter local journeys and is expensive IMO- about 60k.
