60 in a 40mph area

I just need to know other peoples experiences!! I was driving home (I wouldn’t normally be speeding but my mind was elsewhere today!😔)
As I came round the bend I would’ve been doing about 58mph I think then I noticed the speed van and braked to 50 before realising it was a 40 and slammed my brakes on to 40.

I’m hoping it’s a 3 points and a fine and nothing more. But was hoping someone may have had something similar and just wondered what your outcome was?

Thank you! X

Shame shame. It really pleases me that you got caught.

Danni91 · 20/01/2020 14:27

Do you not think it's even worse having your mind 'else where' whilst doing 60 in a 40? I'm gonna assume you had zero concentration on the road at this point.

You got lucky regardless of any fine or points in that you didn't crash or cause an accident

I'm not even anal about speeds but your attitude that you wasn't there enough to notice is a bit of a worry!

Please don't try use that as a defence, Christ!

laco2425279 · 20/01/2020 14:27

My mind was elsewhere because I was on the way back from my scan to confirm I have miscarried. All I wanted was to be at home. I know I shouldn’t have done. All I’m doing is looking for advice from people who have had similar. I saw another post in this category that wasn’t posted that long ago and thought she got great responses from lovely people. Obviously not the right vibe for this site then.

I’ve literally just found out that I have miscarried. I know I should’ve been 100% focussed on the road but I wasn’t, I was crying and a wreck, if you can say you’ve never once had your mind somewhere else then you must be perfect!

All I’m after is people’s experiences.

I think it is dependent on the police force to what you will get..have you done the course before?

I believe the limit for three points and a fine of up to 50% of your weekly income is 55mph in a 40mph zone, so it depends on what you have been caught at, sorry OP, I hate speed vans!

pigsDOfly · 20/01/2020 14:30

I think you need to concentrate more when you're driving.

We all have days when our minds are overwhelmed by other things but not realising you're driving 60 miles an hour in a 40 mile an hour area is not acceptable.

Most places have pretty clear signage and such lack of concentration can easily lead to accidents.

Geminijes · 20/01/2020 14:30

I can't believe that people take delight in other's misfortunes. How sad!

I have no experience Op. Hopefully, it will be a fine, maybe offered a speed awareness course.

laco2425279 · 20/01/2020 14:31

No I haven’t done the course before or even had a speeding ticket or anything before I’m 6 years.

I'm really sorry to hear that OP (the scam not the speeding, obviously) you obviously know you were in the wrong so I'm not going to berate you.

This website is quite informative www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/legal/speeding-fines/

Urkiddingright · 20/01/2020 14:33

My DH got caught by a van last year, he was doing 78 on a 70 road. He avoided points by doing a speed awareness course, it was only a few hours and he actually enjoyed it.

Casander · 20/01/2020 14:33

*scan, sorry typo

laco2425279 · 20/01/2020 14:33

The area is where you just come out of a 50 so that is why I braked to 50 initially as thought it still was. I understand what could’ve happened and I don’t need to be spoken to like some of you have.

Thank you to those that are actually decent. X

Also sorry for your loss OP, AIBU probably isn’t the right place for you right now Flowers.

laco2425279 · 20/01/2020 14:35

I know but I had no other way of getting home and just needed to get back. I know I was in the wrong and not trying to justify what I have done. But I would never normally speed and that was the only reason why x

Just seen you update OP.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been through that.

Under such circumstances you were clearly not fit to drive. You would have been better to have found some other way to get home.

TopOftheNaughtyList · 20/01/2020 14:35

I hate to jump on the 'OP Bashing' bandwagon in the circumstances, but it was an awful speed you were doing for the limit.

This might be helpful www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/legal/speeding-fines/

Looks like it could be worse that 3pts/55% of pay OP.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have suffered a MMC during my first pregnancy, so can empathise with how you were feeling Flowers.

Lizzie0869 · 20/01/2020 14:36

So sorry about your loss, OPThanks I think you should ask for this to be moved to the Relationships board. You're going to get lots of sanctimonious comments about speeding from people who only read your OP.

Hollyhead · 20/01/2020 14:36

You could end up with 6 points if you were significantly over and a fine, won’t be any worse than that.

Flowers on your sad day.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 20/01/2020 14:36

I’m very sorry about your miscarriage op, but you clearly shouldn’t have been driving.

Shopkinsdoll · 20/01/2020 14:38

Your one of those aggressive speeding drivers, see them everyday. You should be off the road! 😡😡 I can tell you now if a speeding driver ever ever hurt or god forbid anything worse to my children I would do time.

Shopkinsdoll · 20/01/2020 14:39

Just read about your miscarriage, sorry to hear that. But I have had three in the past and it’s no excuse to speed.

AlunWynsKnee · 20/01/2020 14:40

If you were under 48mph when they clocked you then you can probably go on the speeding course but if you were doing more than that then you might not be able to. I think different forces have slightly different rules though.

drogon1 · 20/01/2020 14:40

One of my family members was killed by a speeding driver just over a month ago. Your loss sucks but you deserved to be punished to be max for being so wreckless. Just because you may feel shattered does not give you the right to risk shattering somebody else's family.
