I received a ‘text’ from ‘PayPal’ and stupidly didn’t look at the senders number or the link...

Yes I clicked it and yes I entered my usual password. I know I’m an idiot!

The thing is, I’ve only ever used PayPal once to pay for something over three years ago and I never made an account.

What can the scammers do?

I have changed my email passwords and done anti virus checks.

I’ve also locked my bank card...

Please help I’m panicking! Blush

Sign into PayPal check the account,
As long as you've locked the bank account associated with your PayPal, then no money can be taken.
Actually delete the PayPal account or report to them the situation.

If you haven’t already, change the PayPal passwords.

Make a list of all sites that use the same login and password. Change them all.

Check your browser for saved username and passwords - go through that and change everything that you missed on your first list.

I’ve tried logging in to PayPal with the two email addresses I have but neither are recognised? Like I said I don’t think I ever made an account.

Could the phishers use my email addresses for anything else?

Do you have accounts with any other websites which you use that email address with? If yes certainly change the passwords on any of those accounts ASAP! Sorry to hear this happened OP, you have to be so careful these days there are scams everywhere!

Thanks for all of your advice... I’m currently changing every single password. Lesson learned!

I’m going to be very anxious for the new few weeks Sad

Have you checked your bank accounts?

Joker0fGotham · 18/01/2020 20:49

Yes and I’ve locked/frozen them

You can use paypal to set up a guest payment from your credit card, sounds like what you actually did yrs ago. I think I'd check my credit card statement to be sure, but I suspect with guest accounts they don't hold onto the CC details more than a few months (at most).

Joker0fGotham · 18/01/2020 22:13

Do you think they’d be able to run a wide search of my email address to find any online account that is affiliated with my address and enter the passwords I tried?
