Just because someone else has offered an opinion doesn't mean you can't too. If there is a thread with hundreds of posts that you don't have time to read you are still entitled to respond to the op

also sometimes people are dashing off to do something but want to post on the off chance they are the first person who has mentioned a particular thing - especially if it's urgent

YABU but if people jump in and answer the original op without consulting the rest of the thread and how it has moved on, they should not feel offended if they are ignored on the thread.

Sometimes I start a thread, and following discussion actually change my mind on the subject - shock horror. It can be a little wearing if people come in much later, don't read the debate which has proceeded, so I sometimes just skip over them.

YANBU. It drives me crackers.

If someone has enough interest to respond to a post (and think their opinion is worth posting) then surely they should skim the replies. A little self-important to do otherwise IMHO.

Sometimes I'd the first to open a thread and type my post... and I take that long to write it, chopping and changing etc, that a tonne of people have posted before I click submit.

That's different though ELF. I think what warthog means is when people start their post 'Haven't read thread', and give a 'controversial' opinion for 2 days too late, which is the equivalent of shouting the odds very loudly in a quiet room!

I haven't read the whole thread, but there are 23 posts on here and knowing Mumsnet I'm guessing at least 15 of them say "I haven't read the whole thread, but ...".

i'm really guilty of never reading the whole thread. i blame my eyes and old age
