To complain to uni

Hi,
New poster and account here so sorry if I've posted in the wrong section.
But I'm applying to nursing this year and applied to a uni and had an interview for it. They gave me an offer but for a different course for healthcare studies because I didn't meet the entry requirements.
If I didn't meet their requirements shouldn't they have rejected me before and not make me prepare for a nursing interview to give me another course

What is the other course? Is it the access to nursing course? That's the course people do to get the entry requirements to get on to the nursing course.

iklboo · 17/01/2020 18:22

What would you complain about? Maybe the interview was to see if you could be considered for the course with some extra work / criteria. The offer for the other course was then to get you up to speed.

TwitcherOfCurtains · 17/01/2020 18:27

Yabu .
They interviewed you, realised you weren't sutible for a nursing degree and so have made you an offer of a course they think is right for you.

Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:32

@N @Tiredmum100o it's not access to nursing its a childhoos studies degree. And if I didn't meet the entry requirements for that particular degree why interview me for it. @iklboo @TwitcherOfCurtains

You want to complain that they didn't reject you? OK...

Butterymuffin · 17/01/2020 18:34

Presumably they discovered in the course of the interview that you didn't meet the entry requirements?

Can't you look at it as useful practice for any other nursing place interviews?

OddBoots · 17/01/2020 18:34

What do you think the interview was for?

Not everyone interviewed is offered a place on the course and you are not under any obligation to accept the offer for the alternative course.

It may be worth asking for feedback to know if there is anything you can do if you want to re-apply next year.

Studentnurse92 · 17/01/2020 18:36

Hi, I am a student nurse and this is quite standard.
My friend had the same offer from wolves. Maybe try and get a job in health care then apply with a years experience? I am not sure of your personal situation but if you elaborate I could help maybe x

RedskyAtnight · 17/01/2020 18:36

Doesn't the course information state what the entry requirements are?
So either you did meet them, but they thought you weren't suitable for some other reasons. Or you didn't meet them but thought you'd apply anyway, knowing that there was a good chance that you wouldn't be offered it?

user7522689 · 17/01/2020 18:38

How did you not know the entry requirements?

TwitcherOfCurtains · 17/01/2020 18:38

Did you meet the qualification requirements?

UndertheCedartree · 17/01/2020 18:39

You failed the interview (or the Maths and English test, perhaps) so didn't meet the entry requirements. You're lucky they offered you anything atall.

How did you feel the interview and tests went?

But no you can't complain that you failed.

Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:40

@redskyatnight I didn't meet them and applied anyways then they gave me an interview. I thought the offer would be based on the interview then because clearly my personal statement and extenuating circumstances compensated for my predicted grades of BBC instead of BBB and its not even a RG uni BTW

OP posts:
LIZS · 17/01/2020 18:40

If you apply via ucas it is not unusual to offer a different course or foundation if the one you applied for is competitive or you don't meet entry criteria. Are you able to swap later if you take the relevant options or do well academically in first year?

YasssKween · 17/01/2020 18:41

I'd see this as a positive surely? I would assume they accept some onto the original course, reject some for everything and then people they didn't feel were suitable but valued were offered an alternative.

Would you rather have been rejected outright? It's not like the saw you to waste your time, they didn't select you for the course to went in to interview for but valued you enough to find another way to invest in you.

Try to see this is a positive - you could have got rejected outright but obviously impressed them enough not to be!

LIZS · 17/01/2020 18:42

Also if you are not still in school they may have a policy to interview candidates who narrowly miss standard entry grades

Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:44

@UndertheCedartree I thought my interview went very well especially because of the people who I was in essence competing with. Some of them acted like chavs e.g turned up late and were very loud and obnoxious. I think it was because he asked me where I had applied to and I told him (interviewer) and they were RG unis and the uni I applied to wasn't.

Leaannb · 17/01/2020 18:44

Wait..... You are upset not getting into a Nursing Course but you knew that you didn't meet the requirements? If the requirements didn't matter why have the requirements. YABVU

Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:45

@YasssKween I wouldn't have minded if they rejected me pre-interview saying I didn't meet there requirements but then to prep for a week for the interview and for them to then base the offer off of my predicted grades seems like a waste of time

OP posts:
LIZS · 17/01/2020 18:46

Don't get hung up over rg or not. I doubt that came into it. Do you have other offers/refusals yet for preferred course?

JanuaryIsNotTheOnlyMonth · 17/01/2020 18:46

You would be wasting their time and yours by complaining. You have nothing to complain about here (but I assume you are a schoolchild, so you haven’t done all this before and don’t automatically know the procedure).

See it as good interview practice!

Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:47

@Leaannb no I knew there was a chance of getting rejected before applying but I would rather have been outright rejected then given an interview and then to be rejected if my predicted grades. I thought because I made it to the interview surely my offer would be based on my performance at the interview not the predicted grades.

OP posts:
Nursingnew · 17/01/2020 18:48

@LIZS yes I have one offer and am yet to hear back from another uni but will prob reject this alternative course because I really want to go into nursing

OP posts:
TwitcherOfCurtains · 17/01/2020 18:49

Are you a school leaver or adult learner?

PineappleDanish · 17/01/2020 18:49

You didn't meet the requirements for the course but thought you had extenuating circumstances.

They agreed, AND GAVE YOU AN INTERVIEW!! They obviously decided that a nursing degree wasn't for you and then offered you something else!

They didn't have to do any of that. They would have been well within their rights to reject you outright.

You have absolutely nothing to complain about.
