The numbers are starting to accelerate again, the poor people stuck in Greece camps but people from the EU have lost interest, I wonder how this is going to end? Will the EU open the borders again?

I didn’t say you had a problem with black (or any other colour) people. I asked if you did because I was interested if it was racism or more focused as I explained. I could have just assumed you were the bigoted racist you could have been from your posts.

Britain fucked up half the world with it's glorious empire and is now dealing with the consequences.

I’m so tired of seeing this hubris. Ooooh the British were soooo powerful they fucked up half the world. You did not. The French and Spanish Empires were much bigger, richer and longer lasting! Everyone has had an Empire. The British one was not special.

“Do you interact with any non-white people at all @JaneyCartmel? Is it immigrants in general you feel aren’t your problem or refugees particularly? What about British born children of immigrants?”

Can you not remember posting this?

The empire is long gone. Now we have people in desperate situations fleeing to Lesbos where there is little of anything. It’s probably best to focus on how to help that situation.

Look up what bigot means. You’ll see yourself.

@PlanDeRaccordement "We" didn't do anything. Our grandparents, great grandparents & ancestors did. In the same notion that refugees aren't responsible for the shit in their own countries, neither are we! Yet it is us that will be impacted 🤷‍♀️

People are numbers. People only survive because of stable economies. More people destabilise economies. We are already under an immense amount of strain to the point of breaking.

What do we do? We take in more and more until all of us have the same share of 'zero'. Or do we take timeshares in when we can use NHS care and when we can't? "Better not get sick in October, Bill, we're only covered March-May".

We might have a big mouth as a country but we do not have the infrastructure to match and be able to assist more than we do.

We're a country, not a charity.

One of the problems is that the EU isn’t united or supportive. Greece and Italy are carrying the majority of the load with the initial receipt of refugees. One would expect that burden to be equally spread amongst every member state, in proportion.
Not that some members would be able to erect fences and armed guards without real opposition, or deny refugees on the grounds if wanting to keep their own country’s ethnicity pure.
Leaving one or two countries to deal with the crisis whilst others cluck disapproval.

@JaneyCartmel I should read it all back from the beginning. Maybe tomorrow after a bit of a break. You seem to have got into a terrible rage and I’m not sure what you are looking for? You have stated your position and it is almost exactly the opposite of mine. I’m not sure what else there is to say.

I think we should all be doing as much as possible to help these people who cannot help themselves, particularly the children.

@5zeds

Quite the opposite. I’m not in a rage, I’m sitting here laughing at you.

“Do you interact with any non-white people at all @JaneyCartmel? Is it immigrants in general you feel aren’t your problem or refugees particularly? What about British born children of immigrants?”

This comment in particular.

I think we should open our borders to all refugee children, immediately

According to this link: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hundreds-of-refugees-pretended-to-be-children-to-win-asylum-n5bzhfcq9 nearly two thirds of 'children' were ultimately found to be adults.

Nah, fuck the children. They were born in the wrong country.

Christ what a depressing thread. At every level. The sooner there is a world war the better imo. The smugger of some posters is vile. Mind you Britain is increasingly vile in its attitudes to Johnny Foreigner in any case.
"We're a country not a charity" omg. Blow the lot up and have done with humanity - the human being is without doubt the nastiest animal on the planet.

nearly two thirds of 'children' were ultimately found to be adults.

Out of more than 10,000 child applicants, 560 were challenged regarding their age and 300 odd were found to be iver 18

That's a very small number in the scheme of things really and shouldn't be influencing national policy

For people looking for charitable ways to support the crisis, The Flying Seagulls do amazing work with children in refugee camps, providing a bit of normality and play for children in the most horrendous circumstances. These guys are awesome.

You sound angry @JaneyCartmel but I am not sure why?

Why isn't it 'our responsibility' maybe we should consider the world as one responsibility and stop treating it and its inhabitants like shit. If stuff happened here that was on that scale we would all be trying to flee too!

Report
JaneyCartmel · 16/01/2020 16:59

@skyejuly

Are you making things up like your friend?

Not angry at all.

Just laughing at 5zeds expecting me to go no contact with myself. Bit extreme, even for mumsnet.

Report
5zeds · 16/01/2020 17:20

Nobody asked you to “go no contact” with anyone. Where would you and your children go if bombs started dropping here and forced recruitment to fight or service fighters was happening tomorrow?

I'm a single foster carer with my own 6 year old son and I foster a refugee.
He is the most amazing, hard working, delightful young man.
He didn't want to leave his mum, family and country but had no choice, he would be dead now if he'd stayed like his father and brother are.

He is family now and will be living with me for as long as he wants to.

Janey which refugees have come here and tried to blow us up? I wasn’t aware of any Syrian or Afghani refugees who’ve committed terrorist attacks in the uk.

AlwaysThinkingOfNames

Weird that you don't mention the Islamic conquest and colonisation of huge swathes of Asia and Africa. Don't you think they have some guilt in poverty and birth rates in these countries? Are you really that naive that you can only blame the West for all the ills in these places? Sounds a bit racist to me...
