To ask your favourite song to...

To ask your favourite song to... slow dance to in the kitchen, slightly tipsy maybe, with your arms wrapped around your spouse?

And, what song to dance to like no one is watching?

I'm creating a few playlists for a friend's wedding anniversary so need both ends of the spectrum :)

Can't think of a slow dance but for fun dance either the 'Grease Megamix', Don't Stop Movin' by S Club 7 or Shake it Off by Taylor Swift.

People will go crazy for those at a wedding I reckon.

Plumbus · 16/01/2020 00:08

Ah sorry, for wedding anniversary rather than wedding itself. Still awesome fun tracks regardless.

MAFIL · 16/01/2020 00:19

Ive been married for 27 years and have never done any kind of dance, anywhere with my husband and I don't plan on ever doing so, so I can't help with that bit, but I have lots of "dance like nobody is watching" songs.
The first batch are a throw back to my student days in the 80s...
Blue Monday - New Order
Don't Leave Me This Way - Communards
You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive. This was usually the last record at our hall of residence disco and I often ended up dancing on a table or chair as the dance floor was so packed. Ah, happy days.

The second batch are Northern Soul classics. I grew up not far from Wigan and dreamed of going to the Casino but I was too young. (And my Dad would never have let me anyway!) But if I could have, I would have loved to dance to...
Jeanette - Wade Flemons
Do I Love You - Frank Wilson
I'm on My Way - Dean Parrish
If those are a bit esoteric, how about some more mainstream soul like Get Ready by The Temptations or Dancing in The Street by Martha and the Vandellas? Or some really cheesy stuff like Dancing Queen or Come on Eileen - they still fill floors!

okiedokieme · 16/01/2020 00:25

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Nor here, not even on my wedding day Sad. He's ex now so who knows Grin

AdiosAmigo · 16/01/2020 00:25

@MAFIL bloody love that frank Wilson song, excellent choice!

MAFIL · 16/01/2020 00:38

Isn't it just AdiosAmigo - I defy anyone not to at least tap their foot to it.
Oh and I forgot two other classics - the "over you" songs
Crying Over You by Duke Browner and Crackin' Up Over You by Roy Hamilton
There are so many incredible Northern Soul records. I don't really understand why they weren't mainstream successes. But there can be little better to dance to.

youdialwetile · 16/01/2020 00:43

Dance like nobody's watching = Bamboleo by the Gypsy Kings.

When DH works nights, I put this on with the kids and we dance AROUND the dining room table.

SquishyLint · 16/01/2020 07:36

@Cryingoverspilttea

Agreed, it’s the only place in the house to dance.

HollysBush · 16/01/2020 07:47

Slow dance: Ed Sheeran Thinking out loud
Filling the dance floor kind of depends on the ages of the people. Aim for stuff from their teens/early twenties.
It’s great you’re doing this. I hate a party being ruined by a rubbish selection of music. Once you’ve got a bangin tune and everyone up make sure you keep them at it, don’t spoil it with something they can’t dance to.
Bohemian Rhapsody at some point gets most people singing along(not dancing though)

Shangrilalala · 16/01/2020 07:52

Slow kitchen dance - Still the one - Shania Twain

Family dance - Down Under - Men at Work

Don’t know which is more embarrassing 🤣

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 16/01/2020 07:53

Goodnight Sweetheart by The Spaniels - old '50s song, but means a lot to us. Also, End of the Road by Boyz II Men - just because it was one of the first songs we danced to and Glory of Love by Peter Cetera because it's just lovely :)
We dance in the kitchen, in the living room and in hotel rooms - what is life without a little romantic interlude now and then?!

GonnaBeMaayy · 16/01/2020 07:54

You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne

misspiggy19 · 16/01/2020 08:03

No slow dancing here either. I don’t know anyone that would do

loobyloo1234 · 16/01/2020 08:06

Al Green - Lets Stay Together
UB40 - Can't Help Falling In Love
Boys To Men (& Mariah Carey) - One Sweet Day

(I don't slow dance to either but they're two of my fave slow songs Smile )

loobyloo1234 · 16/01/2020 08:06

*three - whoops

TranquilityofSolitude · 16/01/2020 08:25

Slow dance - The Power of Love, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, or Come Undone, Duran Duran.

Dance like nobody's watching (which happens much more often!) - Cheap Thrills, Sia + Sean Paul or Holiday, Dizzee Rascal.

Anniecott · 16/01/2020 09:48

We are a family that do this and we don't care 💃
Soppy slow dance would be Martine Muchuthen perfect moment, which was our wedding song.
Dance like no ones watching either Mr Brightside The killers or Happy Pharrell Williams.

TakemetoPluto · 16/01/2020 10:03

Slow Dance we have a few! 😂 Over and Over Again - Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes, Only You - The Platters and James Arthur-Say you won't let go.

Dance like nobody is watching - Brown Eyed Girl, Superstition, Signed Sealed Delivered and Country Roads.

We also cannot sing from the top of our voices anytime they come on are.... Lonely Teardrops, She's Electric and Paradise by the Dashboard Light 😂

Yep we are oddbods and have quite the random music choices!

Lovely idea for your friend btw!

Ain’t no Stopping Us now by McFadden and Whitehead

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 16/01/2020 13:55

My husband doesn't dance. Ever.

I don't do kitchen dancing, too many breakables, I'm a living room dancer.

Favourites change all the time but right now for slow and shuffling it's The Cure's Pictures of you, and for upbeat and bouncy The Communard's version of Never Can Say Goodbye.
