I love being German, it makes me feel unique, I know after Brexit there is anti EU sentiment but I LOVE being from Germany!

Don't mention the war!
I mentioned it, but I think I got away with it

EileenBilton · 15/01/2020 21:46

YANBU. Brand new German here and I love it too.

kinsss · 15/01/2020 21:48

Germans are what give you colds, or so my dotty Mum used to say!

LochJessMonster · 15/01/2020 21:49

I’m British (English) and I love it.

I love that you are also patriotic.

RedSheep73 · 15/01/2020 21:50

Wish I could feel proud of being English...at the moment it's shaming.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 15/01/2020 21:59

I'm happy for you. Being proud of your heritage is important for your sense of self. Its a very positive thing.

I love being English, absolutely love it. Complete Anglophile. I've travelled everywhere I had a vague interest in going, but there is no where I'd rather be than England.

Fightingmycorner2019 · 15/01/2020 22:01

The older I get the more I love the Northern European countries
As a callous youngster I was all France , Ibiza , italy

Now I love a nice functioning land

JustMyName · 15/01/2020 22:04

I used to live in Germany too and have encountered a fair bit of criticism of the germans. I was always happy there and found them to be just ordinary "people" like the brits. No offence meant .. on either side.

But yes, German bread is amazing.

nespressowoo · 15/01/2020 22:05

My favourite city is Berlin - beautiful place. I like Germans Smile

Lobsterquadrille2 · 15/01/2020 22:07

I'm half German, half British and a direct product of WWII. Neither proud nor ashamed.

Ellisandra · 15/01/2020 22:08

Not really seeing the unique bit?
I’ve just been out to dinner mit zwei lovely German colleagues, plenty of them about!

bitheby · 15/01/2020 22:13

I don't love being English but it's all so random anyway. We could've been born anywhere in the world. It's not as if any of us have either chosen where to be born or can claim any superiority or credit for a random act of chance.

Ashtower · 15/01/2020 22:22

Well I'm proud to be British. I'm the granddaughter of immigrants and there is no place on Earth as accepting and tolerant as Britain. Fact.

Katiepoes · 15/01/2020 22:27

Germans love the town where I live. They all wear Jack Wolfskin sensible outdoor wear, get freaked out by roundabouts, will be very obvious as they'll be the only ones wearing cycling helmets and they all enjoy digging holes on the beach. They also have absolutely no idea how much the Dutch here hate them. Poor Germans.

TooManyPaws · 15/01/2020 22:27

I have many German friends. A couple of them would love to be Scottish. I loved my secondment from work to an equivalent post in Germany, as well as staying with friends. I've never heard anti-German prejudice unless from the usual racist idiots. Though the guy at university who kept on going on about how much better Germany was at everything did drive everyone bonkers and wondering why the hell he was at a Scottish university then...

Incidentally, (though trying not to mention the war!), my parents loved Germany and toured often. They were of the generation who fought and had German friends (who had also fought) from the late 1940s onward. That, to me, shows up some of the dreadful racism of the English media and others who were born well afterwards.

WorraLiberty · 15/01/2020 22:30

Errm...well done to you Grin

Or well done to your parents or something

Squirrelblanket · 15/01/2020 22:33

I would love to be German! I have the temperament already but it doesn't go down very well in the UK!Grin

Rockbird · 15/01/2020 22:38

I've always thought if I had to choose a nationality other than my own I'd choose to be German. Love the language even though I can only just speak it, love the country, love the people that I've met.

FanSpamTastic · 15/01/2020 22:45

I lived in Germany and loved it. If I could live somewhere else then Germany would be up the top of the list.

I like Switzerland too - but they have some odd rules!

Fanniesyeraunt · 15/01/2020 22:47

I’ve seen a few comments on Mumsnet about Germans having no sense of humour but the couple I’ve known were absolutely hilarious!
I love German men especially because last year whilst on a girls weekend in Dublin a group of German men chatted us up in temple bar and they were really lovely blokes, very gentlemanly, helped us on with our coats when we left etc. (they made me feel like a supermodel) I’m tall and blonde - maybe that’s their preference lol - I considered marrying one of them and moving over there Grin. They probably all had wives the cheeky beggars!

lollybee1 · 15/01/2020 22:54

It would be nice if the English were proud to be English too. But here they all want to be anything but English. Lol.

CatAndHisKit · 15/01/2020 22:55

I love German Baroque and classical music, it is the best (though one Austrian is in that category but well, nearly German Grin).
But I can't get the liking for the language.
Otoh the Brit sense of humour (not slapstick which seems dominant in germany) is the best in the world.

bank100 · 15/01/2020 22:55

OP, that's great. Why?

claireyjs · 15/01/2020 22:56

I love Germany, have an MFL degree and studied at Universität Augsburg. All the German people I know are lovely and you should be proud.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/01/2020 22:57

My favourite thing about talking to Germans is being able to elaborate on minor illness when asked 'Wie geht's?'
