To want his car to break down!

I live on a (usually) quiet residential street, a new build so the houses are quite close together, a couple of months ago someone new moved into a house further down from me and their car is awful, it's one of those souped up cars with a huge spoiler and massive exhaust. He comes home around 7 at night, right after ds (20mths) is just going to bed and makes an absolute racket moving the car up and down the street till he finds the perfect spot. Then will leave at least two times a night revving away each time, then back and up and down again, honestly it's driving me mad and keeping Ds up at night as well. I've reported it to environmental health who say that unless he is idling the car there isn't anything they can do and I don't want to call the police as they have far more important things to do. Any suggestions? Potato in the exhaust maybe????

Have you spoken to him to ask him to be more considerate?

Tbh I'm a little bit scared of speaking to him, he seems to have a lot of dodgy looking friends who come round. Apart from ds I'm on my own so worried about any retaliation, suppose I could try a note through the door?

Yeah I’d try a note in that case and be vague, just say you’re a neighbour, not your house number. I wouldn’t hold out much hope of him changing though, in my experience people who drives cars like that are usually dickheads! A white noise machine in your son’s room would help mask the car noise though.
