To complain about this kind of parking?

I work on a really massive office complex with one car park, that you can only enter through one gate. This gate has security guards who check our parking passes are valid on the way in so naturally it is chronically slow trying to get in at peak times. Combined with the fact that so many people work in the complex, traffic is often backed up for a couple of miles with people waiting to get in.

But what really pisses me off is people who upon entering the car park proceed to do a lengthy slow reverse park into the first available space. This means that no other cars can get past and traffic backs up even more.

I want to complain to the Site maintenance team and ask them to send out an email to everyone asking them to please either drive straight into a space ASAP or go down to the end of a row if you want to reverse park.

I’m not sure if I’m being a grumpy and unreasonable cow over this, but when you have to sit in a queue of traffic for 30 mins after a 30 min commute it starts to grate a little!

WIBU?

you are a bit. What if they drive past the space and then can't find another one?

Reverse parking into the space is the safest thing to do. I can't remember the statistic but there is something about accidents happening when people reverse out of a parking space. Some companies have reverse parking policies in their car parks - BP was one I went to occasionally.

Hmm

Yes YABU.

You'd be far better complaining about them not sorting the car park out tbh.

I'm surprised the council are ok with traffic being backed up for two whole miles.

The design of the car park is the problem, not careful drivers!

tequilasunrises · 15/01/2020 13:53

The car park is shit admittedly it wasn’t designed for the amount of people now working there. They only let as many people in as there are spaces and when I get in it’s usually only half full.

Clearly I am just a grump Grin

If there's that many people entering at the same time and the current set up is causing a wait of 30 mins to get in, then facilities need to sort something out.

I feel your frustration and would likely feel the same even though IWBU.

Sounds like the design and layout of the car park is the problem.
I’m surprised the council/ police haven’t said something about a two mile tailback everyday.

UrsulaPandress · 15/01/2020 14:01

Folk should be encouraged to move away from the entrance to park, ie fill up the car park from the furthest point from the entrance first.

Thistly · 15/01/2020 14:04

You are totally not a grump!!!!!
But try and get them to address the whole problem... ie: need to get 2 barriers with number plate recognition.

GruciusMalfoy · 15/01/2020 14:06

It sounds like a shite car park, and I wouldn't reverse park into the first place myself, as long as there were other spaces clearly available. But I wouldn't get overly annoyed by someone choosing to do it, it is safer, I always reverse park.

The problem is the car park design, not people parking safely by reversing into a space. Management should be doing something about people wasting half an hour of their day.
