To ask what exercises you found doable if you don't like exercising!

I hate exercising 😖

I have no will power to do and I am yet to find a type that I enjoy.

I've been to gyms, classes, running etc... And I never continue because I just don't enjoy doing it.

If you felt like this but then found a form of exercise you surprisingly enjoyed, what was it? What can I try?

It's not so much about losing weight as I'm not over weight but more just keeping generally fit.

Swimming! I love it too much for it to feel like a chore (and I'm certainly not sporty)

berlinbabylon · 14/01/2020 15:34

Cycling. It's a lot of fun if you go in a group.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 14/01/2020 15:35

Spin classes, and swimming.

Tableclothing · 14/01/2020 15:35

Martial arts

sorryiasked · 14/01/2020 15:36

I walk. During the summer months I go out early in the morning, eg 6am for an hour or so. Don't do so much during winter as too dark and I really miss it Sad
The only other exercise I've every enjoyed was trampolining and badminton, but I can't get to either if them at the mo.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/01/2020 15:36

bounce class or swimming

BrowncoatWaffles · 14/01/2020 15:38

DDP Yoga on an app in my house with the curtains closed while the DC nap. Twenty minutes feels doable and I feel great afterwards.

Burlexercise. An hourly class once a week. Massive workout but I spent the whole time laughing so didn't care that it felt like I'd been run over by the end.

MidsomerMum · 14/01/2020 15:38

Walking, swimming and YouTube classes. I enjoy hiit and aerobics but only in the comfort of my own home!

SunshineForMe · 14/01/2020 15:39

Walking and swimming. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and thats all that I can manage.

chocolateteapot20 · 14/01/2020 15:41

Yoga (lots of different types, so maybe try a few - Vini Yoga is VERY different from Bikram, for instance); Pilates (again, it might take a while before you find the right teacher and style for you); various forms of dance (Jive, belly dancing, and ballet for adults); hiking/walking; Wiifit (though it did tell me to get off the golf course and try a different game as I was so rubbish). Grin

I hate games with a passion, having had PE teachers from Hell at school. I won't even watch them on TV. Figure skating is about as sporty as I'll watch.

FrogInAHat23 · 14/01/2020 15:42

Same, OP! I can't stick with exercise unless I actually enjoy it. I love computer games, so Beat Saber (requires VR) or Nintendo's Ring Fit Adventure (requires a Switch) actually works for me. I hate going to the gym, running, team sports, swimming etc, but love computer games, so these things work for me! The only other form of exercise I like is yoga (check out Yoga with Adriene on YouTube - free). I actually enjoy doing it, get a really good stretch in the process and get an endorphin rush afterwards. Properly chills me out too, would recommend.

scoobydoo1971 · 14/01/2020 15:42

Walking, with dog, is my preference. I have a treadmill for the bad winter months...

FruityWidow · 14/01/2020 15:44

Walking swimming and yoga

FredWinnie · 14/01/2020 15:44

Soft contact martial arts

SquishySquirmy · 14/01/2020 15:45

Yoga for strength, flexibility and balance.
The Wii dance thingy for cardiovascular workout. Or just dancing around in a silly way at home (with curtains closed!).
Trampolining with kids, anything that is fun so I barely notice I am exercising!
I try also to move more when I take DC to a playground/soft play etc- she likes it that I am more involved in her games, and any exercise is better than none imo.

Kids are a good inspiration - think of how much exercise you did as a child just playing, but you never thought of it "as exercise" because it was fun.

PenguinsOnParade · 14/01/2020 15:47

Walking (Pokemon Go helped me want to go walking further), yoga, Pilates and pole fitness. It was finding the right classes and having fun at them that helped me want to keep going, I forget it's about fitness a lot of the time.

QueenOfToast · 14/01/2020 15:49

10 years ago I was an unfit, slightly overweight, family support worker. My lower back became really painful so I decided to try Pilates.

Pilates sorted out my back pain, helped to build my fitness and my core strength and I loved it so much that I re-trained about 3 years ago and am now a Pilates teacher!

Once I was stronger through Pilates, I tried barre classes and discovered that I love them too - maybe you just need to find the right class for you.

I have also started running with couch to 5k. Normally I hate running - love the idea of it, but hate doing it. However, I have discovered that if I do my walk/runs off-road, I enjoy it much, much more. Pavement pounding is not for me. Do you think I can call myself a trail runner?

BTW, for full disclosure, I'm only in week 3 of the couch to 5K programme so it's VERY early days!

SayNotoArtificialLipids · 14/01/2020 15:51

Walking, cheap and no specialised equipment needed.

Dramaofallama · 14/01/2020 15:51

Weightlifting.
I hate team sports and competitive sports as it makes me feel self conscious.
Weightlifting there is no competition and I saw great results not just physically but mentally aswell.

chillychicken · 14/01/2020 15:54

Weightlifting.

Hate all other types of exercise but I can’t get enough of lifting weights Smile

WeirdPookah · 14/01/2020 15:57

Just walking can be great exercise. It's what I did the most of. I also liked swimming.

OakElmAsh · 14/01/2020 15:59

spin classes work for me (once i got the padded-arse trousers to protect my poor suffering rear end Grin )

danni0509 · 14/01/2020 16:00

Lucy Wyndham read

Search that on YouTube. She has over 1000 free videos.

Each one is less than 10 minutes but works on specific body parts, bingo wings, mummy tummy, thunder thighs etc etc.

I always do these! Saves me £30 a month at the gym.

thecatsthecats · 14/01/2020 16:05

Boxing! Great stress reliever.

My tip would be to swap between two also. I can't stick to something for more than 3 months, but the key is find something to replace it.

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE FOR STOPPING!

I'm just changing to weights after a running phase. I'll go back to something cardio based when I get bored of that.

It's fine, and it might be better in the long run not to be chasing the 'perfect' exercise for you, but rather finding what fits in with you for the season, life, or your mood.

Like, sometimes I like the support of being told what to do, sometimes I feel more like doing things under my own steam. I think that's normal.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 14/01/2020 16:09

Zumba! Although I had to try several before I found one I really liked.

I also like cycling because you can go further/see more than just walking. I can't be doing with walking for no purpose.
