The people around trump are evangelicals who believe in the rapture, the second coming, that iran is an existential threat because the bible tells them so. aibu to think that they might be making decisions based on their religious beliefs and not what is actually good for the world?

Then again, quite a few of his voters are nutjobs themselves.

I agree there are some Christian kooks in the U.S. government but if there is a religious culture you should be worrying about it is that of the Iranian leadership. They will soon have a nuclear weapon and their nuclear scientists openly discuss the existence of Jins. The Shia eschatological beliefs about the return of the Mahdi (Jesus) & the resulting holocaust are pretty scary. If pushed into a corner Israel also has (undeclared nukes) & the Iranian leadership has talked in the past about bringing about the apocalypse (which in Islamic scripture requires a big war between Muslims, Jews & Christians).

Basically the middle east is nuts. And the involvement of the United States & Europe in the Middle East is also nuts. We should stay out of it. Let them kill each other. Stop buying their oil & introduce immigration bans.

I don't see why believing in jinn is any worse than believing in the rapture.

FYI - according to Islamic belief - the Mahdi is not Jesus. The second coming of Jesus will coincide with the rise of the Mahdi and they will fight the Dajjal side by side.

As for Jinns - they are the Islamic answer for supernatural activity. They don't believe in ghosts/poltergeists.

You don’t need to be religious to be a dangerous demagogue, but it helps.

Newmetoday · 22/01/2020 08:10

Religion shouldn’t be anywhere near politics. It’s a cult and dangerous. If there were no religion, the world would be a better place.

Trump’s spiritual adviser called for ‘all satanic pregnancies to miscarry.’

Fucking hell.
