To ask about your menstrual cycle after pregnancy

Ive had 1 AF cycle return since I had DC#3 and I've had nothing since. However I have been getting a lot of period pains so your normal cramping etc especially around the date of the last one I had. I've done a pregnancy test when I first missed my period but it was negative.

Would IBU to ask you what your cycle was like when it returned after pregnancy? Is skipping months normal?

I have my 6 week check wednesday with the Dr, but its 7weeks really, im going to bring up a similar thing. i bled for almost the full 6 weeks and have had no period yet. I expressed for a few weeks but i stopped around 2-3 weeks ago. I would have thought id have had one by now!

sidesplittinglol · 13/01/2020 20:44

I think in your situation being only 7 pp is a bit early for your period to return?

I bled for about 6 or 7 weeks after all my births. But after that it was at least 12 months before having a period. Breastfeeding can delay a period, apparently. My last child was nearly 2 before I had a period!

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/01/2020 20:50

Mine came back 4 months after, despite bf around the clock. I noticed I’d ovulated as I’ve always had strong symptoms and was expecting it two weeks later.

Regular as clockwork ever since and still feeding, the only change is complete lack of pain. It’s miraculous. I’ve had horrendous periods all my life though had a big improvement when I was having acupuncture when ttc and I haven’t taken a painkiller for it since giving birth.

I hope yours settles down soon.

DC is 20 months sorry I forgot to add

But once it came back, was it consistent every month or did it have a break and return months after?

So very jealous tysonyouprick!

But my mum breastfed all of us for ages and got periods back within a couple of months after giving birth each time. Maybe it’s genetic.

grubblyplank · 13/01/2020 20:58

I breastfed both my DC and expected not to have periods during that time. I bled for almost 3 weeks after birth and then got a period after 5 weeks Sad and then back to normal, despite exclusively breastfeeding each of them for 7 months!

user1468348545 · 13/01/2020 21:33

I had a random one at about 8 months pp. Then another but really heavy one 11 months pp. Waiting to see if I now will end up a regular cycle again. I'm also ebf so who knows Haha.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 13/01/2020 21:46

I exclusively bf and didn't get normal periods back until dd was about 12 months however i did get a couple of random periods with period type cramps etc in between.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 13/01/2020 23:06

I have pcos, before pregnancy my cycle could be anything from 33 days to three months, I didn't have a period ford just over a year after birth (BF might've had an impact). I've since had two and they've started on exactly the same day of the month, which is completely different for me, they are unbelievably heavy but they always have been.

VestaTilley · 13/01/2020 23:08

Usually light one months, then heavy the next, missed one month (bizarrely).

And my episiotomy scar hurts a bit when I've got my period :S

Aquamarine1029 · 13/01/2020 23:09

I ebf both of my children, and with both births, my period came back after 4 weeks and was like clockwork from then on.

littlejalapeno · 13/01/2020 23:18

I bled the full six weeks, bed for first 6 months, dropped a feed and added a bottle of formula at size months and got my period within a month of that. They have been longer cycles and I’ve had lots of clots and lose at least 300ml over 7 days. It’s exhausting. Am trying to stop by completely now at 13 months also hope my periods will balance out when my hormones do. Am a bit worried. Are you asking because you’re worried about something in particular?

sidesplittinglol · 14/01/2020 14:06

Thanks for your replies! Seems like it's normal. Not particularly worried about anything in particular just wondered if it was common.

I breastfed all four of my DC. With DC1&2 I never had a period because I got pregnant before they restarted Blush. After DC3 my periods didn’t return until she completely stopped breastfeeding at 15 months. After DC4 they returned at 6 months despite him still being exclusively breastfed. They have been irregular since they returned though, sometimes have 40 day cycles and I had one period which lasted two weeks Confused.

Skysblue · 14/01/2020 15:17

I breastfed til he was 2, periods came back at 16 months.

After birth I bled for 7 weeks I think.

Charlottejade89 · 14/01/2020 15:21

I bled pp for about 2-3 weeks, then I had a period about 3 weeks after this fi ished. then back to regular periods straight away. Did not breast feed though. Same happened after I had my infant removed, back to normal regular periods within weeks
