Live in a quiet place with no on street parking. Most houses have parking bays either outside their house or nearby.

For us there’s 8 spaces over the road. I believe that only 3 are owned by houses are free for all so I guess aibu but we’ve lived here for 6 years with mostly the same neighbours. We’ve all got a system on who parks where. Obviously odd visitors turn up and stay for a while. None of us mind that BUT someone has left an old banger across 2 of the spaces (where us and neighbour parks) so neither of us can park.

Checked the reg and it’s out of mot so assume it’s gonna be there for a while. We can’t figure out who owns it. There is new people down the road but cannot see how it’s them as they have lots of room outside their house every day and it would seem stupid walking further for no reason.

Now, like I said no one actually owns this space but it’s going to be dumped there for weeks without mot aibu to try get it moved if It doesn’t move soon? Or find the owners which is proving hard.

I am not usually one to get heated about parking. I also don’t like approaching people about it. But their parking is selfish taking up two spaces.

I like to be able to park..

You need to be talking to both the local council and the police to try to get one or other of them to take some action, especially if has no MOT - have you checked whether it has insurance? If it's on private land, you're going to struggle to get either the council or police interested, but you don't know until you try - you may get one of them to trace the owner and maybe talk to them (probably a job for a PCSO).

If it has no MOT it's illegal to be parked on the road. Report it.

Jaxhog · 13/01/2020 13:54

As the previous poster says - contact your local council. It sounds like the car is abandoned.

Try this site - its the MySociety site

It’s not parked on the road but it’s parked in a bay along the road? I will wait and see if it’s moved in the next day or so and proceed from there.

The spaces aren’t technically ours or anything but there’s 8 spaces for a few houses in our little area. The other areas have bays too. Just baffled.

There should be a form for reporting abandoned vehicles on your council website. I've used it to get a car removed from outside DD's school.

safariboot · 13/01/2020 15:44

Is there any parking enforcement? If spaces are individually marked and someone's plonked their car across two, action can be taken on that basis.

Troels · 13/01/2020 15:48

We reported one with no MOT or tax to DVLA as it was parked crooked causing a nusance in our cul de sac. It hadn't moved in ages. After letting DVLA know it was gone pretty quick. One of the neighbours watched it get towed away. www.gov.uk/report-untaxed-vehicle

74NewStreet · 13/01/2020 15:49

If it’s not roadworthy it’ll be classed as abandoned and your council should have it removed. It’ll take a while; they usually put a sticker on it for a week or so to alert the owner and give them a chance to respond.

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 13/01/2020 15:51

Do you have a management company? Who maintains the spaces if they’re not owned by houses?

Berthatydfil · 13/01/2020 15:52

Report it as abandoned. Council will put a sticker on it and leave it for a week or so, and if it’s not moved they will remove it.

gamerchick · 13/01/2020 15:56

Definitely report it abandoned. I'm going to do that with one that's SORNed and dumped in the street. I've reached nearly a year and have lost patience Grin the thing has a dirt crust over it.

GabsAlot · 13/01/2020 16:10

is it taxed=its not true about nomot you can drive it to an appt for a test so they wont move it just because of that

74NewStreet · 13/01/2020 16:26

If they sticker it and get no response from the owner within a certain time period they’ll consider it abandoned.

GabsAlot · 13/01/2020 16:48

not if its taxed they wont 74
