To thank you for giving blood!

Just wanted to post a quick thread to thank any MNetters that give blood!

If it wasn't for people like you I would of died giving birth to my son, I would not get to see my children grow up! My little girl who is autistic would not get to hold my hand in the car (she is terrified of it and its the only way she will get in!) and I would never have experience my baby boys first smile today...

So THANK YOU! If you have ever given blood as small as it may seem to other people to me you are a life saver ❤️

You are very welcome Smile I gave my 44th donation on Thursday; there were two older chaps there on their 101st and 110th! Currently looking forward to getting the text telling me where is gone.

justalittlety · 12/01/2020 21:38

@DontCallMeBaby Oh wow! Amazing. I hope to give back one day but my levels are still not were they need to be so hopefully next year 🤞🏻

You are very welcome my lovely. And congratulations on your baby! X

36th donation done in December, next booked in April. I’m CMV - ve so my blood goes to nicu babies. Ironic really as my DS was premature.

TheDarkPassenger · 12/01/2020 21:47

I can’t give it :( but I wish I could, I’m b-, not really sure what that means like!

OhhEmmGee · 12/01/2020 21:49

What a lovely thread - thank you OP and congratulations on your baby! I’ve started giving blood recently and it’s really heartwarming to hear from someone who’s benefitted ❤️

3teens · 12/01/2020 21:49

I gave blood everytime eligible from my 17th birthday. Needed a platelet transfusion when giving birth and can't now but I tell everyone 'if you would take it, give it'

MumofTinies · 12/01/2020 21:49

This thread has made me smile, I too had to have 3 transfusions after DS1 was born. We often talk about people becoming more and more selfish, but three people went to the trouble of donating thier own blood, through a fairly uncomfortable procedure, to make someone they have never met better again.

Another thank you from me Flowers

DontCallMeBaby · 12/01/2020 21:50

@justalittlety yeah, you can’t give once you’ve had blood, just when you’re most likely to want to give back. Hopefully your story will inspire someone who can but doesn’t ... and if they’re in any doubt, the snacks are EXCELLENT these days Grin

Singlebutmarried · 12/01/2020 21:52

I am forever grateful to those that can.

My autoimmune disease means I can’t. But you guys have saved my life more than once.

Pardalis · 12/01/2020 21:52

A thank you from me too! I have had blood and plasma and my very premature son also had blood. I would so love to give back but they don't let you. I would be there every chance I could.
Super grateful to all you donators

DontCallMeBaby · 12/01/2020 21:53

Ooh re the uncomfortable procedure, some research recently showed that altruism is its own pain relief, and people giving blood report less pain than people having blood tests! This squares with my experience, even though the donation needle is quite a bit bigger than the one used for blood tests (I’m weird; I like to look).

spurs4ever · 12/01/2020 22:21

Same here OP. I'd given about 18 pints I think and when I gave birth I needed 3 pints back. Like you I was so disappointed when I found out I couldn't donate anymore but forever grateful to those who do x

LolaLollypop · 12/01/2020 22:23

Currently pregnant so can't donate atm but once baby is out, all being well I'll be back donating!

mrsbyers · 12/01/2020 22:26

It’s so important , I’ve had a lot of transfusions and can’t donate to return the favour but my close friends all started to donate on my behalf a few years ago

MulticolourMophead · 12/01/2020 22:26

Donation no 63 coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm O Neg, so try to make as many as possible, while carefully booking my tattoos in to minimise the wait period between a tattoo and donation. So my next tattoo is in 3 weeks.

I'm booked in on a Sunday morning, so I'd guess I'll be up and off to give blood, do the shopping, and get home for a cuppa before my lazy DC get out of bed Grin

QueenMabby · 12/01/2020 22:26

Just got my text today telling me where my blood went! Gave my 40th donation just after new year. Am aiming for 50 before 50. My brother has a chronic medical condition and has had to have a couple of transfusions so I’m also very grateful to all the other people that donate.

Cuddling57 · 12/01/2020 22:27

Ah that's ok 😇!
Good to hear your stories.
It's a real feel good when you get the text to tell you where your blood has gone too!
Actually I need to give again (after a break) so this thread has reminded me to book again.

doodlejump1980 · 12/01/2020 22:29

Donation number 26 tomorrow. Wish they did texts to see where it was going in Scotland. That would be really interesting!

Brigante9 · 12/01/2020 22:31

I was really chuffed to get an email saying my blood (I’m a fairly unusual type) had gone to a patient in the same hospital where I was taken after a very serious accident. It’s a bit of a funny coincidence because it certainly isn’t my nearest hospital. When I had the accident, I was miles from home. Made me smile.

FennyBridges · 12/01/2020 22:33

You're welcome.

I'm A+. I can only give occasionally when I'm not anaemic, but have managed 17 donations so far!

It's absolutely no trouble ♥️ I'm glad you are fit and well.

Thorilicious · 12/01/2020 22:33

Due to give pint number 12 in April.

Livingthedream12345 · 12/01/2020 22:37

The Blood donation service is one of those organisations that make you feel very valued. I'm an o neg donor, been going for years with a few breaks. It's always very emotional to hear where your donation has been used to literally save a life. Off to donate at the end of the month.

DontCallMeBaby · 12/01/2020 22:40

@QueenMabby now there’s a challenge - I reckon if I give at 16 week intervals on the dot I can get to 50 5 months before I turn 50. Some margin for error but not much. I will try!
