Just wanted to post a quick thread to thank any MNetters that give blood!

If it wasn't for people like you I would of died giving birth to my son, I would not get to see my children grow up! My little girl who is autistic would not get to hold my hand in the car (she is terrified of it and its the only way she will get in!) and I would never have experience my baby boys first smile today...

So THANK YOU! If you have ever given blood as small as it may seem to other people to me you are a life saver ❤️

I give it cause it's the only A+ I've got Grin

Whatagreytdoggo · 15/01/2020 22:25

Lovely post. I gave until i had my child and needed a transfusion too. 😫

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 15/01/2020 22:29

I used to give blood. Every 3 months. Loved going. The staff were all so lovely! But I had to stop, for medical reasons.
I miss going now.
Please, if anybody out there is thinking about going, please do. Please take my place as i cant go any more.
I think i gave about 30 donations in all.

TrashPanda · 15/01/2020 22:39

I've never been able to give blood unfortunately as I've always been under the lower weight requirement. I then needed a transfusion after my third child was born. I'm O- so would have been a universal donor if I'd been able to donate.

My mum and my sister have always given regularly. My sister is also O- and CMV- so her blood is reserved for neonatal units.

@Theoscargoesto yes 100% you are all SO very much appreciated for being so selfless and giving blood 🩸🥳

And the people that can give to babies just WOW so many little baby's that would not be here if it was not for individuals like your self that keep going back 😰 so thank you on behalf of all the little people also 👶🏻 xxx

@shitwithsugaron yes, you get a text (in England at least). I actually came in here to share mine that has just come through - my blood has travelled about 130 miles from Gloucestershire to St Leonard’s near Hastings. I think that’s the furthest yet.

DontCallMeBaby · 16/01/2020 13:51

@justalittlety I will confess I’m rather glad I don’t ‘need’ to persuade DD to give blood when she’s a little older, as it’d be a hard sell, she doesn’t like needles and has the lowest pain threshold ever. ‘Fortunately’ she seems to be AB+ (home test) so not very useful as a female donor.

amazedmummy · 16/01/2020 13:54

I'll be back to donating when I can, DS is only 8 weeks old so a little while to go. However my blood group isn't all that helpful A-, I think DH will be B- as that's what DS is. My mum is O- which is infinitely more helpful.

Thegreymethod · 16/01/2020 14:13

I've donated blood twice and after this post I've just gone online to book my 3rd go..... there's no appointments left in my area for quite some time (which I suppose is a good thing!) but I will book the next available slot.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 16/01/2020 14:32

I used to donate whilst living in the UK. As my name hints, I’m now in Canada and not allowed to donate due to the risk of vCJD.

Willow2017 · 16/01/2020 14:48

I used to but the last 3 times I was rejected due to low iron levels (last time despite trying tablets)
Now I have an auto-immune condition which destroys my platelets so i cant. Really sad I can't do it any more.

Nogoodnickname · 16/01/2020 14:54

I would love to be able to donate blood but unfortunately I have stage 4 CKD and I’m anaemic so I’m not able to.
