Annoying phone calls

welshmum3 · 12/01/2020 11:43

About 3 months ago we suddenly started getting phone calls from a number which we have identified via 1471. The caller just hangs up when we answer. It can be two or three times a day at random times including one at 4am. My son in law has called the number and attempted to have a polite " do you realise you're misdialling" conversation but got hung up on. This morning I've had 4 phone calls, at 6.40, 9.47, 11.25 and 11.35. On the 11.35 one, a woman actually spoke and asked for someone by name. I asked if this was the person who kept calling us. She said it was her daughter dialling the wrong number. I told her it had to stop. She hung up. Less then 10 minutes later - we got another one. I work shifts. I want to sleep. How do I make it stop without the expense of new equipment or changing my phone package or the inconvenience of changing my phone number? It's driving me nuts.

Block the number?

mildlymiffed · 12/01/2020 11:45

If you have the number call your phone provider. They should be able to block the caller.

welshmum3 · 12/01/2020 11:52

I've tried blocking the number.

And why hasn’t blocking it worked?

AllergicToAMop · 12/01/2020 12:08

Is it a normal landline, always the same number or is it different numbers?
If the former someone is targeting you. If the latter it's probably marketing.

Agree with pp. Call your provider

MulticolourMophead · 12/01/2020 12:22

It's in the OP that it's the same number.

OP, I'd speak with your provider. They're tergetting the number. It's might not be you they are targetting, it's possible they are trying to target the person who was asked for, but have the wrong number for that person.

If you manage to speak to anyone again, tell them you'll be talking to the police about harrassment. Might stop the calls.

welshmum3 · 12/01/2020 12:41

I'm not sure. I've tried using by call protect but it tells me the number is " unrecognised" - even though it's a local area code and the first 3 numbers of the number suggest it's a number in the next village.

Send them a text that is this harassment (this is harassment) continues you will report it to non emergency as you're unable to block the number.

SuzieBishop · 12/01/2020 12:48

I would do to them what they’re doing to you - phone them at 1am, 4am, 6am and I’m sure they’ll stop pretty soon.

Blow a whistle down the phone!
