So my DH and I got a new kitten the other day, he's 15 weeks old. We brought him home and kept him in his own room away from our current cat who is 2.

After a bit of hissing at the door from current cat, that night they were eating their meals right next to the door, and after some room swapping, neither cat seemed angry or scared so we let them meet.

They started playing straight away, taking it in turns to chase each other, however the next morning current cat won't really play much with the kitten. He won't even take chicken from me, I think he's a bit spiteful.

No hissing or aggression to kitten, just keeping a watchful eye, however when the kitten runs, he occasionally trots after him, chirping.

He keeps ignoring me though, so when will my baby come back to me!! It is only early days, we've had the kitten for 2 days, so I realise current cat is doing exceptionally well Grin

He’s not being spiteful , he’s wary and probably a bit pissed off. Thinks you’ve replaced him.
Give him a week and ‘maybe’ he’ll allow you to be close again

When we bought our rescue dog home, it was months before our cat even graced us with her presence! 😂 Such a diva! Even 6 years on she looks pissed off about it!

@UsernameUnavaliable

Your 2 y.o. cat is gonna hate and resent you for a few weeks, even a few months, and is NOT gonna like this new addition to the family. He will glare at you, and hiss at new kitty, and you will regret getting new kitty.

But not for long........

Took about 3 months for our 2 to get along. 2.5 years between them.

They may never be soulmates/bosom buddies, but they will co-exist fairly well, and may even play together/sleep near each other sometimes.

Don't expect them to get on immediately though. Coz they won't. But they will eventually. Just be patient. Smile

Happy Caturday. Grin

@FizzyIce I've been feeding them both chicken, giving current cat the first bit of chicken, he'll go to DH for pats but he won't really come to me. Giving them both lots of love and lots of healthy cat snacks

@GoosetheCat oh cats are funny aren't they! We had our dog before current cat, current cat hated the dog at first, now they are best friends hahaha

I have 3 rescue cats. First 2 came together, they’re not best friends but they get on fine. They’re approx 5 yrs old now. Then in May I got a kitten... they hate him!

My previous grumpy old boy cat never forgave me for having babies! He was my little shadow for years but when he realised my baby twins were a permanent fixture he stopped loving me and turned his affections to DH!

They’re awkward, fickle little bastards cats... but I love them!!

One took 6 months to forgive me after a bath.

The current one still hasn’t since we added the puppy. That was 2 years ago and I don’t see it changing any time soon!

New cats though have been accepted within a couple of weeks,

TiddyTid · 11/01/2020 23:33

He's a cat. It's all about him Grin

ViaSacra · 11/01/2020 23:44

He's used to have your entire house as his territory and now he's being forced to share it with another cat. He's not going to be happy.

Soundbyte · 12/01/2020 00:08

One of my cats has only just forgiven me for having a baby.. DD is 2.5 now!
