To ask if you have a cleaner...

How often do they come and for how long?
Looking into it as myself and DH work long hours and enjoy our hobbies in our free time so we're looking for some help with around the house.
Basic stuff: Hoover, mop, dust, kitchen and bathroom really. No bedding or ironing etc.
We have a small 3 bed semi.

Also what do you do if you have a dog and a cleaner? The dog goes out with a dog Walker every day but if I cant arrange them at the same time the cleaner would have to tolerate the dog being around.

3 hours a week. 4 bed semi, wash and put towels in the tumbler, change 3 beds and pop bedding in the wash, clean bathroom kitchen, dust and hoover and wash downstairs floors.

Pipandmum · 11/01/2020 15:36

Mine comes once a week for four hours to do 3000sq ft home: 4 beds, three baths (though she doesn't do every bathroom every week), three receptions plus kitchen. No washing /ironing. I have two dogs and they jump all over her then settle down after a few minutes.

GruciusMalfoy · 11/01/2020 15:36

I'd crate the dog, or if there's a room not due to be done that week, keep the dog in there.

Forestwitch · 11/01/2020 15:38

@Poltergeister Hi, I'm a cleaner and for a 3 bed it would be around 2 to 2.5 hrs.
The first clean always takes a bit longer as the cleaner needs to get a 'deep' clean, so that they can keep up the standard later on.
Some cleaners don't mind dogs, but it depends what it's like with strangers coming into the house.
I've cleaned in houses where the dogs followed me around the house, which was a bit annoying. But most just sleep!
Just make sure that the cleaner has insurance (they should show it to you anyway), and if possible a contract stating what is required from both parties (client and cleaner).
All the best Smile

The dog interviewed our cleaner - they had to like each other for it to work

Two hours a week on a Friday , all floors mopped / hoovered , kitchen cleaned down hob etc , dusting , bathrooms cleaned , glass staircase cleaned and windows every couple of weeks but one or two weekly (dog snot)

Cleaner here!! Actually prefer a house with a ddog!! Always available for a chat while I work!!
First visit I prefer a list!!
Then offer suggestions about what can realistically be done in the hours they require. For example a new job has blinds and shutters on every single window which are cleaned on a 4 week rota or would get nothing else done in the 3 hours they want.

Geometricprince · 11/01/2020 15:46

2 bed house, 3 hours once a fortnight. We have a dog and he LOVES our cleaners. Luckily the feeling is mutual Grin they're awesome and do such a good job that once a fortnight is plenty.

I love a house with a dog. Nice to see someone happy to see u when u get there. A couple of hours should do u fine. Though I would think u would have to deep clean yourself. I was a cleaner now a housekeeper to one of the families.

MrsPoll · 11/01/2020 16:41

We have a cleaner, she comes twice a week and keeps the dog outside when shes here (we have a covered car port that the dog mooches around in). I love having the cleaner it frees up so much time at the weekend.

3 bed semi, 2 hours a week. We have a small dog and I checked she was ok with this before she came. She shuts th dog out of the sitting room after she's done (because the dog pulls the nicely arranged throws off the sofas)

She does the floors, bathrooms (new build so we've got an unnecessary amount for the size of the house) and some dusting.

AnnaSparks · 11/01/2020 17:01

3x per week! We do have a young baby though and we are both awful at housework. It’s a short term luxury to keep a happy marriage! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 11/01/2020 17:02

We have 2 x 3 hours - one is cleaning, the other is bedding/organising/ deep cleaning (for instance she has been through all the kitchen cupboards and sorted them).
My cleaner loves the dogs/cats/chickens and is happy letting them out when no one else is around, and will even take the dogs out for a walk

redbullgivesyouflings · 11/01/2020 17:07

3 hours once per week. I currently live alone so as there basically isn't any mess, she's in charge of the laundry, changing the bedsheets, cleaning out the dishwasher on top of the usual mopping, cleaning the bathrooms etc.

caketiger · 11/01/2020 17:14

Three hours once a week £10 per hour. Pay about four weeks holiday pay a year in December. Does lounge, halls, kitchen and bathroom. Cleans for us and some of our friends and is a total legend. My cat adores her. She has become a much loved part of our family!

OFFREDOFFSTUART · 11/01/2020 17:20

3 hours a week- £45
4 bed semi plus 2 loft rooms
We all love her

Sillyscrabblegames · 11/01/2020 17:23

3 hours a week for 4 beds. 2 bathrooms. Kitchen. Halls.
2 dogs and 2 cats and I usually walk them while she is here and then put them somewhere out of the way or the pup keeps following her and running off with cloths etc.
She likes them and gives them a good cuddle and if I'm away feeds the cats and sends photos.

caperberries · 11/01/2020 17:23

4 hours a week - £50. It’s a 5 bed/3 bathroom house. 3 receptions. The dog snoozes throughout

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2020 17:27

Two hours a week, large house but just my husband and I here usually, when my daughter is home or we have had guests I increase it to three. No ironing, and the place is always tidy, I don't tell her what to do, she is an older lady and rather fearsome, I just let her get on with it. She changes the beds every week, or ours, and then other beds as and when they are used.

Oly4 · 11/01/2020 17:31

three hours a week, four bed semi. Cleans two bathrooms plus downstairs loo, all floors either mopped or hoovered, full kitchen clean (it’s fairly big) and that’s about it. Dusting gets done occasionally if there’s time
