To think this is unprofessional?

My housekeeper left me a brochure for some beauty products with a note saying how brilliant they were and that she could get me a great discount. I looked it up and it is an MLM.
Am I being unreasonable to think that as my employee she shouldn’t be trying to flog me stuff?

Just don’t buy it. Sorted. You’re overthinking this massively.

HollowTalk · 10/01/2020 22:05

Just ignore it.

Justcallmebebes · 10/01/2020 22:12

Maybe she's not earning enough and needs extra income?

Strangerthingshere · 10/01/2020 22:14

No harm done. Just ignore.

CakeandCustard28 · 10/01/2020 22:18

Just ignore. It’s really not that hard.

Waveysnail · 10/01/2020 22:22

Why shouldnt she if she thinks you will like products. Hardly a crime. You just say no thanks

FranticToddlerMum · 10/01/2020 22:24

Meh I wouldn't buy anything from any of those crappy schemes but couldn't get offended by her trying either.

wobytide · 10/01/2020 22:26

It's almost as if her low wages doing a menial job aren't enough for a comfortable life. Maybe sack her for insolence

WorraLiberty · 10/01/2020 22:29

Is she not self employed or working for an agency?

cheesenpickle · 10/01/2020 22:29

Get over yourself. Be thankful you don't have to resort to selling mlm products.

Needmorecaffine · 10/01/2020 22:29

How dare she !

You could always bring it up in her next staff review Hmm

katew355 · 10/01/2020 22:29

The local vicars wife briefly did some cleaning for us a few years ago and she used to leave leaflets about Christianity and upcoming church services when she left. I never said anything but I did annoy me a bit!

WillowSummerSloth · 10/01/2020 22:30

I would be annoyed by this too. It would feel a little intrusive. It feels like it needs a response which then puts you in an awkward position. I think you are best to entirely ignore if she's a good cleaner in other ways. Or if she raises it/ leaves anything else, perhaps ask her to stop doing it. I get where you're coming from OP.

Bluerussian · 10/01/2020 22:30

No harm in her asking. You don't have to buy, just leave her the brochure to take back home.

Florabritannica · 10/01/2020 22:33

Thanks for the replies - clearly I need to get a grip.
For info, I employ her and she is paid £15 per hour.

wobytide · 10/01/2020 23:47

For info, she's decided she needs to try and make MLM work for her as well. Maybe add a clause in her contract that she can only work for you exclusively (and not to solicit any of your family or friends into her network for 12 months after she leaves your employment)

windycuntryside · 10/01/2020 23:49

So?

Stonerosie67 · 11/01/2020 00:00

Just say no thanks, preferably not in the imperious tone you've used in your ok.

Stonerosie67 · 11/01/2020 00:01

Ok? Op, even....bloody autocorrect!

Conformingtoregulations · 11/01/2020 00:02

Housekeeper? Wtf - do you mean cleaner?

HeddaGarbled · 11/01/2020 00:13

She does a shit job for shit money. She’s trying to earn a bit more for a slightly better standard of living than shitty. She is exactly the sort of person these companies prey on. She’s the victim here, not you.

Unshriven · 11/01/2020 00:26

Not the point, obviously, but where on earth do you live to be paying a housekeeper only £15 an hour?!

LuluJakey1 · 11/01/2020 00:36

Why? Are you somehow superior to her that she should not approach you?

lostsoulsunited · 11/01/2020 00:37

Who are you, hyacinth bucket ?

maddiemookins16mum · 11/01/2020 00:46

God help us! The ‘staff’ are getting above themselves trying to flog Avon.
