As title explains, first time buyers in our 30's. Totally green! Spotted a house we like but needs quite a bit of work that we would have to do room by room or what funds allowed. We think it's about £25,000 overpriced for what needs doing. How cheeky were some of your offers?! Thank you. (Worth noting we are down south where local family homes sell for between £200,000-£350,000 3 to 4 bed)

Bought my last property for £270k; five years later went on the market for offers over £375k (Scotland) and sold for £420k!

YappityYapYap · 10/01/2020 22:00

2 bed end terrace. Needed some work doing to it. Was on for offers over £168k, we offered £174k and it got rejected. We went back with £178k and that was accepted. We bought it in 2014.

This is in Scotland

HavelockVetinari · 10/01/2020 22:00

We offered and paid asking price of £500k within 2 days of it coming onto the market, but it was our dream home in a very popular area and location, so we didn't want to lose it. Others tried to gazump us but our lovely seller refused.

Ofalltheginjoints · 10/01/2020 22:02

We’re first time buyers and we’ve exchanged today to complete next week, House in the NE on as OIEO £135k and we paid the asking price, 3 bed semi and needs nothing doing to it other then moving our furniture in

loobyloo1234 · 10/01/2020 22:03

2 bedroom semi detached in the South. Up for £258k. Paid £255k. Put in £12k or so doing it up so far

Cliffordthebigreddog · 10/01/2020 22:03

Ours was on for £550k, we offered £495k and it was declined. They accepted someone else’s offer who was a cash buyer. That sale fell through a couple of months later and they came back to us and accepted £495k we were so pleased! That was 4 years ago and we’ve since spent about £165k on a large extension and complete renovation. It is now worth £850k. I say make the low offer.....you never know, they might accept!! Good luck.

GreekOddess · 10/01/2020 22:10

The house we are are buying was on the market for £560k and that's the price we are paying.

We put ours on the market for £385k and we are selling it for higher at £395k

champagneandfromage50 · 10/01/2020 22:17

Ours needed a lot of work and was on the market for £775k. My DH offered £605k and they accepted.

reetgood · 10/01/2020 22:20

We bought 4 years ago for £96k. Yes, we’re in the North :D. It was offers in region of £105k. Difficult to get a read as no comparable local sales but due in part to an error on the listings, it had been on market for a year and was empty.

We’ve spent maybe £15k? £5k was new bathroom, £3k new flooring, £2k roof, £600 water leak, £1k garden, £1k new front and back doors, misc decorating maintenance etc. It needs a new kitchen, fascia and soffits but that will just have to wait.

A fully refurbed place comparable to ours was listed at £195k and has sstc so will be interested to see what that went for. Next door, needs a refurb but not on the scale that ours did went for £145k recently.

This area will never go crazy but I always feel like we got a steal!

Atilathehunter · 11/01/2020 00:01

We bought a wreck in SW London for £5k over asking. Galls me to this day despite being a small amount in the grand scheme of things.

(Found a bag of used dildos in the attic bedroom but that's another thread)

HomeEdRocks18 · 11/01/2020 03:34

Our house was £37,950 and that's what we offered. We had put in an offer on the house next door but a higher offer of £45,000 was accepted. Exactly the same inside so we got a bargain.
2 bed 2 reception room victoriana terrace in 2001

Aberforthsgoat · 11/01/2020 04:12

5 bedroom link terrace was up for 360 and we paid 345

pumpandthump · 11/01/2020 04:22

On for £340, paid £360. There were many, many competing offers, some for more than ours. We paid a fair price but not excessive.

Phillipa12 · 11/01/2020 05:09

3 bed victorian terrace on a main road. It was originally up for £335k, dropped to £295k and then to £265k over the course of a year, id seen it advertised but was out of price range and just as i sold my house it dropped with in budget. I paid £260k, the vendor had 2 offers and met me to ask why i wanted the house, i said i was looking for a family home after divorce, that and id fallen in love with the hallway and original staircase, he went with my offer as the hallway was why he had fallen in love with the house too. Have spent about £20k on renovations.

PapayaCoconut · 11/01/2020 05:18

Asking price was £635.
Had our offer of 610 accepted.
Valuation came back at 590.
Bought for £600.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 11/01/2020 06:30

Asking: 160k
Offered: 145k
Agreed and sold for 147k

Actual worth once all the hidden issues were found: a lot fucking less Angry

LadyGuffers · 11/01/2020 06:50

£250 and I paid £246 but I really think they would have accepted less so wish I'd gone in with £230.

But I was a FTB and doing it on my own with a deadline to move so was keen for nothing to delay me.

lostsoulsunited · 11/01/2020 06:53

170k, paid 170k

Nodancingshoes · 11/01/2020 07:29

Ours was up for £265k, reduced to £255k and we paid £245k. I think we could have pushed it to £240k but we wanted it too badly to risk it!

GaaaaarlicBread · 11/01/2020 08:16

Me and my husband were first time buyers last December . 3 bed semi with two bathrooms, large garden and good location for schools . They wanted £175,550 and we offered £158K originally and he said I, so we went with £160,000 as it needed so much work doing and they agreed . Good luck x

juneybean · 11/01/2020 08:19

75 and paid 60

Sceptre86 · 11/01/2020 08:24

Offers over £215,000 for 4 bed detached with a separate formal dining room and good sized dining kitchen, 3 great sized double and one single bedroom, good sized garden and garage. We offered and paid £217,500

barberousbarbara · 11/01/2020 09:13

My 2 bed terrace was on the market for 2 years before I bought it. It was initially on for £90k and had dropped to £78k by the time I viewed it. I offered £70k and we settled on £75k, which was £11k less than they'd paid for it 3 years before.

Cuckoobananas · 11/01/2020 10:01

Offers over 165 house was empty, estate agent let slip they had divorced and this was the final joint thing they owned so wanted it gone. We got it for 158.

Mooey89 · 11/01/2020 10:04

Our house had been on for £225k reduced to offers over £210k
It had been vacant for a while and they’d had an offer fall through.

We offered £189,950 and owners counter offered £190k 😂 so that was what we paid.
