Car parking with diagram

I'm parked up in this space in diagram 1, excuse the back of envelope job.

When I arrived there was a car and van already here, I parked next two the car so the van had ample space to get out. I didn't park next to the van because I knew the car park would fill up and I'd get blocked in. There are no marked spaces. If I'd parked next to the van I'd have blocked him in.

Then, diagram 2, another car arrives (Ca) and parks, closely followed b6 another car (Cb), the van is now blocked in. At this point the van driver gets out, stands next to my window and shouts that I have blocked him and should go and park somewhere else.

I could of parked where Cb is now parked but didn't as it's poor visibility when pulling out because the wall is six foot and you can't easily see what is coming from that direction and it's a busy road. Car Cb will be going soon as they (and I) park here daily and they pick up somebody at this time and then go (they have gone as I am typing this), the van is no longer blocked in and they are still sitting parked up in their van.

I have locked my door and am ignoring him. He intermittently beeps his horn and shouts for me to move my fucking car.

Who is being unreasonable? I could move my car now and block in car Ca but after the van drivers behaviour I'm not moving anywhere.

It doesn't sound like she's blocking him now though as the car next to her as left, If he wanted to go he could just drive round her. I'd move to the space vacated by car cb though just for a quiet life!

SD1978 · 09/01/2020 15:39

You blocked him in, then the other cars compounded the block in. You are the only person who could move the car- he's unaware you know the other person will be coming back, and is understandably pissed off at being blocked in. I would have moved the car. YABU

schoolcats · 09/01/2020 15:40

You've blocked him in. And when he was completely blocked in why didn't you just move and then repark?

I didn't block him in, there was easily room for him to leave until the other car (a) blocked him in. If I'd moved when cars a and b arrived I'd have parked right behind where I was and he'd not have been able to leave when car a and b left. He didn't leave until after them as his child hadn't arrived.
We were all in our cars waiting for people, me for my adult dd who works there and two men and another waiting for their children.

You should move your car OP

schoolcats · 09/01/2020 15:42

Why not just move to let him out?

Because he was to wanting to move his van, he was still waiting for somebody. If he had then I'd have moved and then parked in his new,y vacated space.

OP posts:
schoolcats · 09/01/2020 15:45

wasn't wanting to move his van.

When I parked he could get out, if he'd needed to. When the two cars on my right parked he couldn't get out but he didn't want to as he was still waiting for somebody

You could have told the van driver that you parked before those two (Ca and Cb) while moving your car out of the way.

He knew that, he saw us all park.

HomeMadeMadness · 09/01/2020 15:47

I can't believe you're sitting there blocking him in - just let him out! I would have just parked where CB was parked in the first place to leave a gang way!

OldEvilOwl · 09/01/2020 15:48

So he was telling you to move even though he didn't want to leave?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 15:49

If he was asking you to move you'd have known he was leaving soon so you should have just moved.

schoolcats · 09/01/2020 15:51

Yes.

So this isn't a car park then; it's just a flat bit of land off a road near a school? And you all pile in, doubling up so the front row of cars cannot get out when a bunch of people double park behind them.

Being on the school run doesnt mean you can double park and block people in.

britnay · 09/01/2020 15:52

The van will have a larger turning circle than a car, so will require more space to get out, therefore I don't think it would have been able to get out even if the other cars hadn't been there. Why didn't you park where car B is along side the wall in the first place?

schoolcats · 09/01/2020 15:54

Read my op, I've explained.

And yes, it's a car park. It has a blue sign with a letter P meaning car park, it just doesn't have marked spaces. It has spaces for six double parked cars.

I didn't block him in

Yes, you did.

slipperywhensparticus · 09/01/2020 15:56

So why can't he move then? I'm looking st it and it seems he has space?

KnifeAngel · 09/01/2020 15:57

You clearly blocked him in.

CakeandCustard28 · 09/01/2020 15:57

You clearly blocked him in. You should of told him when he needs to move to let you know and you’d move. 🤷🏻‍♀️ No need for this big drama.

Equanimitas · 09/01/2020 15:57

Time for a grown-up conversation:

"Hi, sorry about this, but you weren't blocked in when I arrived. Tell you what, if you let me know when you want to leave I'll pull out then. Is that OK with you?"

OldEvilOwl · 09/01/2020 15:58

I would move when he was ready to leave then and let him out then

Lulualla · 09/01/2020 15:59

Or is has space for 4 cars if they all reverse in and leave the middle clear. The 2 cars at the back can then drive out down the middle.

Stop double parking. Where you parked, you blocked him in. From what you've drawn, there wasnt enough space for him to manoeuvre down to the other end. His way out was the middle; where you parked and blocked him in.

ohprettybaby · 09/01/2020 16:03

Maybe it has spaces for 3 cars if those vehicles need to be able to get in and out?

I'm wondering what the hell kind of car park is designed to block 3 vehicles in. Take a pic? Or show is a google map?

adaline · 09/01/2020 16:08

It actually doesn't look like it does have space for six cars, if all the spaces being full means people are blocked in. If all spots in a car park are taken, everyone should still be able to drive out of their space safely.
