Uni essay referencing help!

Morning all.

I am not proud of myself but I messed up the deadline and have had to do an overnighter to get a (relatively minor) masters essay in on time. I would not have got MC as it was my stupid mistake.

Anyway. It is done, won't be a brilliant grade but better than a zero. I don't think I can amend the work but I'm a bit worried about a reference. I quite heavily followed an example from a book for a specific type of evaluation table with my own data and formatting. I have referenced the book several times in the text and in the refs but this table took so long that I think I forgot to reference the book immediately after it as I was exhausted.

Should I email my tutor and make them aware? Would it likely be picked up as plagiarism (probably by eye as it's a core text rather than the content matching up electronically)?

I also forgot to number the pages! Argh!

We’ve all been there! If it was me I would email the tutor as otherwise it might seem like you deliberately omitted it from your referencing!
Best of luck!

If you've cited the reference properly in the text then you have covered the plagiarism angle. However you may drop marks for not properly referencing - assuming that your problem is that the cited text is not in your reference list.
When I was at Uni a few years back, we uploaded the text without reference list for plagiarism checking.

Yes email them. You will probably still be marked down for it but at least it won't be referred as an Academic Concern.

Oops, misread your post. Yes, drop an email to your tutor.

From what you’ve said itndoesnt sounds like this is plagiarism maybe poor academic practice but even then I think this would be depending on how you’ve actually done the work.

Emailing about this in many cases wouldn’t make any difference to how your essay is marked. Whilst your tutor may well be sympathetic and understanding as to how / why it happens it doesn’t mean that they can take that into consideration when grading.

For example they can only mark the work presented, if your institution uses anonymous marking its irrelevant and you’d be potentially breaking that my emailing if it then makes it obvious which is your essay.

In my experience this would go down as incorrect reference but not plagiarism as you have listed the book in your references.

Thanks everyone. I'm a bit of a worrier so in the end spoke to someone in IT who was able to let me withdraw (I didn't think they could but thought worth a try), made a couple of tweaks and resubmitted. I thought just my luck I'll get done for this!!

Or not quite as bad but the Marks lost for bad references would be the difference between the next grade.
