Settle a disagreement - heating in the morning?

Lighthearted but settle a disagreement between my husband and I!

Our bedroom is above the boiler so when the heating comes on it's relatively noisy.

I have to get up for work at 6am, i take the dogs and the toddler to their respective day places and then go to work.

Husband is a contractor so his work is variable - sometimes he is home not working, sometimes he gets up with me to get the train, sometimes he works from home etc etc.

I insist that the heating is on a timer so that it comes on in the morning so I'm not freezing when getting ready etc. He's complaining that it wakes him up when he doesn't need to be. Heating clicks on when my alarm goes off so not on before then and not excessive.

So am I bu or is he? Grin

What does he do re: heating when he gets up before you?

Why can't he get up and sort and take the kids on the days he's at home so you can stay in bed for longer?

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2020 09:56

He is.

But I'm surprised that he isn't used to it now. Ours can be noisy but it never wakes me up.

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2020 09:57

And 18 overnight. Not too warm to sleep but not bone chilling cold in the morning

Blimey! I'd melt! And your heating bills...Shock

whatnow40 · 08/01/2020 10:15

If he's not working early, why isn't he taking child and dog to their day places? Why do you always have to do it?

DH does the school run every day that it is possible. Because he should. How else will kids learn about equal division of labour in the home?

18 cold to me lol. I'm comfortable at 30 Plus but dp hates it, we settled on 25 and I got to pick 18 as I'm up first

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 08/01/2020 12:16

Definitely him! Mine is timed to come on before we get up (anyone with a random early start is welcome to click it on sooner though). No way would I want to strip and shower in an ice cold bathroom.

Weebitawks · 08/01/2020 12:20

So you get up at 6 am, sort the dog and toddler while he lies in bed and has the brass neck to complain that the boiler wakes him up?

I'd counter this by saying he should get up and get the toddler dressed.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/01/2020 12:22

I don't have mine on in the morning. I'm OK with jumping out of bed and into the shower and then getting dressed.

However, we're all different: you shouldn't have to be cold.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/01/2020 12:23

He is! Ours come on 10 minutes before we aim to get up. DH doesn't get up till about an hour (or more) later, but would never deny his wife or children heating FFS!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/01/2020 13:38

Ours come on 10 minutes before we aim to get up.

10 mins? Barely enough to take the edge off Grin
Mine goes off as I get up (on for 1hr), which means the house is nice and warm, and on cold days my underwear will be fully warmed through (I put it on there the night before).

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/01/2020 18:26

Yes @BuzzShitbagBobbly but we are down south and it rarely gets that cold. By the time I've had a wee and got myself down to the kettle, it's fine!

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2020 18:48

@squeekums I meant hot through the night! That would be chilly for me in the daytime

MatildaTheCat · 08/01/2020 18:55

Does he have the heating on when he’s working from home on cold days?

To be fair it’s been extremely mild in the south for a few days so you’d probably be fine without the heating but no way should he expect you to. I suspect he’s just having a January morning moan though rather than seriously suggest you break the ice on the water jug before you wash (obviously no boiler, no hot water Grin )

squeekums · 09/01/2020 11:06

@Nanny0gg yeah its a night temp, its comfortable, the compromise, in the day id freeze at 18 unless it 45 outside

GU24Mum · 09/01/2020 11:09

Another one with no heating on in the morning either though I'm pretty hard core and also a bit plump at the moment so carry my own insulation.....

Floralnomad · 09/01/2020 11:14

He is being completely unreasonable but also why are you taking dogs and children to daycare whilst he’s sleeping ?

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 09/01/2020 11:20

When the kids were small we used to have the heating set to come on 15 minutes before we got up for half an hour. We're in a mid terrace and west coast so the house doesn't get very cold.

Now they're grown we don't bother in the mornings, just an hour in the evening, and an additional one in the afternoon if we're home.

Had to switch it off yesterday though, it's bloody warm for January!
