I'm one of those people who think posting about medical issues on here and not getting help is stupid BUT I dont wanna waste time for genuinely ill people.
I've had a headache for 2 days, no trauma and everytime I've blown my nose today my snot has been purpley brown.

Do I go? Do I stay?I dont wanna waste time if its nothing

Hmmm I get you op. That is a bit odd. I've experienced that as a one off due to a probable burst blood vessel in the nostril. How long has this colour of mucus been coming out?

easyandy101 · 07/01/2020 18:38

Sinus infection, you might be wanting ab antibiotic

Not a doctor Grin

Butchyrestingface · 07/01/2020 18:58

Seems a bit of an over reaction to me if those are your only symptoms.

Littlemeadow123 · 07/01/2020 19:11

You probs won't get mucb sympathy on here but If you are not usually heada he prone or this headache is different to your usual ones then I would go, just to be on the safe side.

Minky35 · 07/01/2020 19:13

DH is like this, we think he’s just got a very bad cold.

Kwkwjwkek · 07/01/2020 19:17

Maybe wait a few days to see if your symptoms subside?

Insaneinthemembury · 07/01/2020 19:19

Sounds similar to when I had sinusitis. Is the headache awful?
Drs in this country are reluctant to give antibs for sinusitis because apparently it's usually viral.
Altho I've been given them abroad for it

OldMotherHenz · 07/01/2020 19:19

Looks like bloody mucus, what have you taken for the headache? Do you have a temperature?

BonnyConnie · 07/01/2020 19:19

I’ve had this often (tiny sinuses). Never sought treatment for it.

BeenHereForAges · 07/01/2020 19:20

I second sinus infection. I had this recently. Cleared up with antibiotics.

Arrowfanatic · 07/01/2020 19:22

Looks like sinusitis. My doctor won't treat it until I've had it for 3 months and usually it clears on it's own. Use a bit of sudafed spray when it's at its worst.

iklboo · 07/01/2020 19:24

Could you have a chat with a pharmacist? They might be able to recommend something to help.

Cornettoninja · 07/01/2020 19:29

I agree it sounds like your sinuses. I don’t think it’s been a problem long enough for a doctor to do much in the absence of other symptoms.

Have you took any ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory might help) or tried steam inhalation? You can google sinus massage too, sometimes I find effective but sometimes not. It’s worth a chat with a pharmacist as they may have something to recommend or signpost you to your GP.

Hope you feel better soon.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 07/01/2020 19:32

Most sinus infections are viral and antibiotics are not helpful.

Take pain relief and see how it goes.

(not a doctor, I've just had a lot of sinus infections)

Jimineycricket · 07/01/2020 19:37

Sounds like a sinus infection to me. Does it feel like your brains trying to squeeze out of your head?

goatbame · 07/01/2020 19:41

Sinus infection. I've never had any help from a doctor with any of mine that I've visited about.

caulkheaded · 07/01/2020 19:41

I’d ignore it for a bit BUT I’d recommend someone else went to see a pharmacist. Depends if any are open at this time though. I wouldn’t go to the walk in centre

Twitney · 07/01/2020 20:33

sounds like the sinusitis I just had. It took quite a while to shift but sudafed spray did help (never taken it before but couldn't shift the horrible pressure). My head was hurting and so was my jaw and neck etc, horrible. I've had so many sinus infections I wouldn't go to the doctor unless it didn't go for over a month I think, but if you are worried then seek medical advice of course.

KittyMarmalade · 07/01/2020 20:44

Leave it another 2-3 days and see if the problem cures itself (I think it will).
Unless headache gets much worse of course.

CactusAndCacti · 07/01/2020 21:08

I agree with the sudafed nasal spray.

If you have a B&M near you they do a little vapour candle (with the medicines) that is about 60p. Seems to help a little (and if it doesn't it wasn't hugely expensive to begin with)

BoyoMama11 · 07/01/2020 21:37

Thanks everyone, you've put my mind at ease! I'll try steaming and the nasal spray! :)

I once had the most horrific headache and sinus pain that lasted days and days. I was all bunged up, but just not able to clear my nose at all - nothing coming out, nothing improving despite trying everything I could think of. Then suddenly one day - and I'm sorry, this is vile - I blew my nose and the biggest huge solid lump of purpley brown snot, about the size of a large mouse, came out all in one lump. I'd been steaming over hot water every day, and using sprays and sudafed and all that, with no effect, and then one day it just worked. I was fine after it came out. Mine looked just like yours, only all in one lump rather than in little bits.
