Not AIBU but posting for traffic.

Has anyone had nail surgery and if so how did you recover from it?

The bandages are so big in proportion of my toes and I'm unable to wear trainers.

I'm back in work on Thursday and need to find some footwear I can wear and walk in and also drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions or links to what I can possibly wear? I work in an office environment, but will need to be able to walk there and back.

I'm due to get my dressing changed on Friday where I'm hoping the bandages will be smaller and I'll be able to wear trainers.

Feeling very sorry for myself at the moment. Can't get comfy as the numbness has fully worn off now so toes are painful and throbbing along with where the needles went in.

You probably didn't watch the injections (and I don't blame you TBH) but some people inject the base either aide then across the base of the nail to catch the branches of the dorsal nerves .

It can leave a "bleb" or raised blister (which might be what is going on at the base) or it might be the peeling of the phenol burn.
You are 9 days in , still early days .

How often are you dressing the toe? Are you using salted water?

ToeTroubles · 17/01/2020 06:40

It looked better until I had my first shower. I dried it properly and redressed but I think it must have retained fluid as when I came to change the dressing again it was stuck?

I'm changing the dressings twice a week. Have attached a photo so you can see progress from day 6 and day 9.

The blisters are from the acid I think. Both toes look so different though.

The single pic I posted was after the above sorry. I changed the dressing early because it was really sore. So day 5, day 8, day 9.

It looks like it healing well, are you posting pics because you're concerned about healing because it all looks great?

ToeTroubles · 17/01/2020 12:11

Which nail was the most problematic before you had them treated?
Might be the right one was more stubborn to remove?

ToeTroubles · 17/01/2020 20:26

The right one. It often got infected though wasn't at the time of surgery. But they did mention it bled more than the left one.

I've got my feet up on the sofa with the dressings off. Feels much nicer. Will cover them with fresh before bed.

@ToeTroubles - I hope your toes heal up soon. I have been following your thread and they are starting to look better.

Do you mind me asking how painful were the injections to numb the toes? I have heard horror stories about the pain. 😭

ToeTroubles · 18/01/2020 08:19

They were painful but manageable. And it's over relatively quickly. I managed to keep my feet still throughout and deep breathing helps.

Have had my final appointment with the podiatrist on Friday.
All healing well, I now only need the dressings on for another week maximum whilst the phenol burns heal. They had blistered which she popped, but should now heal really well.

My feet don't look great, lots of dry skin, but no pain and soon be dressing free.

Anyone know if I can put moisturiser on regularly once the burns have scabbed over fully?
