Cough

Hi, just really sad and fed up, so thought I'd ask for some advice. Any tips for easing a cough that is making me physically sick about 5 times a day. I don't have morning sickness, just an absolutely awful hacking cough that can go on for 20 minutes at a time.

I would suggest going to a Dr. It may be adult whooping cough.

The only thing that ever worked for me with this type of cough was codeine. Any pain meds that contained codeine worked great. I'm not sure however if you are pregnant or not( u mentioned not having morning sickness) If you are then you would need to consult your GP before taking anything. Hope this helps😊

I’m off work with a similar thing. Saw a dr yesterday after being ill for about 3 weeks. She recommended an over the counter medicine called pholcodine. Makes you drowsy but suppresses the cough reflex.

I use Boots Cough Control medicine - it works by sort of coating your throat so it doesn’t feel irritated any more and that breaks the cycle of coughing for me.

It works so much better than any other I’ve tried, and it tastes quite nice too. I bought quite a few bottles just in case they stop making it!

Unless you know you have an especially sensitive gag reflex this could easily be whooping cough

Thank you so much everyone for your advice. Yes, I am pregnant (3 months), so would need to check on the medications. Sort of tried to stay clear of them, but I'll ask my pharmacist. Actually, my friend just called by as I was having another "episode" hunched over the kitchen sink. She said "deffo whooping cough" as I was whooping like …..whatever whoops a lot". I am not sure if I was vaccinated against it, but if it is whooping cough, I guess I've got this for a while. Will give the GP a ring (my friend says record it on YouTube for him to see, so I don't go in and infect anyone. Right, now to try and get a bit of food in there while I feel rather well - me and Baby need the strength :) Sian x
