Loss of sense of smell

I posted this in Health but didn’t get any replies, so thought I’d try again here.

I had a nasty cold and cough at the end of November for about 10 days and realised afterwards I still can’t smell things. I assumed it would come back eventually but it’s been about 6 weeks now so it’s not looking hopeful ☹️

Has this happened to anyone else? I know it’s not as scary as losing other senses but it’s ever so strange.

Not sure whether to make GP appt as I’m worried I’d be wasting their time.

Thanks

It can be a sign of zinc deficiency, try taking a supplement for a while.

Will do - thanks

See the GP. You've lost a sense.

It changes your sense of taste, it could be dangerous if you can't smell gas, off milk, petrol and so on.

You won't be wasting their time at all.

I had this after a very bad sinus infection. It took ages to return and it isn’t the same as before - I can only smell really strong smells.
