My DP proposed to me today and I'm very happy and excited! It was incredibly sweet and romantic and I'm just so looking forward to everything that the future has to hold for us and I can't wait to tell our friends and family soon.
However, as I was just about to tell my siblings the happy news, I found out that my 2 half brother's nan has sadly passed away. She was a lovely lady and I know they will be absolutely devastated. Although I am very sad to hear and devastated for them, I didn't personally know her having only met her once in my whole life so it doesn't have a massive impact on me, though I do not mean to come across as insensitive at all! I obviously didn't tell them about our news because that would be completely inappropriate and I think they probably need a bit of time to process the passing of their nan.
I know everyone deals with these things differently and I don't want to come over all happy and bubbly at them when they're obviously devastated. I would however like them to be some of the first people to hear our news (after our parents) as we are all very close, so I don't really want to tell anyone else until they know. When do you think would be an appropriate time to tell them? I want them to have all the time they need so I'm more than happy to wait as long as it takes but I'm just not sure when that would be! Any advice would be appreciated! X
