To feel depressed after taking down the Christmas decs

Place looks so bare and empty. Can’t help thinking back to the warm fuzzy feeling of putting them up.

OP posts:
Ticklemeelmo · 05/01/2020 18:01

Ah yes hate taking mine down, they look so pretty. Our decorations go up at the beginning of December and we finally took everything down today.

hoopdaloo · 05/01/2020 18:01

I was glad to take the decs down. But I do miss the feeling of Christmas that you describe.

Ginfordinner · 05/01/2020 18:04

YABU
Our living room is lighter, brighter and less cluttered now the tree is away. It went up on 18th December and came down on new year's day.

I don't want to feel "cosy", I want light and airy - and warm.

belay · 05/01/2020 18:04

Glad to see the back of it . I'm tired and can't wait for Ds to go back to school

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 05/01/2020 18:06

then will do January decorations... bulbs, fairy lights, white candles, lots of cosy blankets

I love this idea! Took the decorations down on the 2nd, but I have a lot of all year round fairy lights and always have fresh flowers so it's nit too bad. Im inspired to do,January decorations now.....have a couple,of St Eval winter thyme candles left to,burn as well.

The older I get the more I feel the need to celebrate the small stuff - a cold night in front of a fire with wine ams a good book or film, a perfect spring morning in the kitchen, a hot summer evening......

RiftGibbon · 05/01/2020 18:09

Mine are still up. Probably leave then until next weekend as they look good.

MillyMollyMooMum · 05/01/2020 18:09

Totally understand OP. Most years I am happy to take them down but not this year. I never enjoy the period from Jan-March, I live in Scotland and it is just so dark and miserable. I am dreading returning to work tomorrow, DD goes back to school on Wednesday, and it's been so lovely spending time together, working on my own projects, and not living according to a schedule and alarm clocks. Taking the decorations down marks the end of a lovely period and the start of the bleakness.

RiftGibbon · 05/01/2020 18:09

*them up

headlock · 05/01/2020 18:09

I like having the nice clear space back but have held onto a couple of little star light stands on my shelf!

GreyGardens88 · 05/01/2020 18:13

I just put up bunches of tulips instead, and bought some hyacinth pots

Veronicat · 05/01/2020 18:14

Waves @itwaseverthus . See you at Burns on the beach 🎆✨

Ginfordinner · 05/01/2020 18:15

Good idea GreyGardens88
I love fresh flowers - much more than Christmas decorations.

MotherHeggy · 05/01/2020 18:15

Hate putting them up but love taking them down. I did say to my son that I probably won't bother with them this christmas.

I do have some ''fairy lights'' in a vase that I have had for years which look bice in the evenings through the year.

Fatted · 05/01/2020 18:18

This is what I feel like OP.

I had a shit Christmas, sick relative in hospital, so that doesn't help.

I put the decorations up early as a way of cheering myself up after a shitty year and to fill space in a new house. Now they've gone, I need to find something to fill an empty corner of my front room and decorate the walls.

It's also a reminder of having to get back onto the treadmill that is life. Sad

anothernamereally · 05/01/2020 18:30

I'm sad too, I've left some lights up on the mantle. Taking down the decorations signals back to work and school tomorrow, back to alarm clocks and schedules. I hate the cold dark mornings and nights but agree it's already beginning to get lighter in the evenings so hope of daffodils and spring can't be far away

JaceLancs · 05/01/2020 18:39

Took ours down today - still need to vacuum but that can wait till tomorrow
Big bunch of flowers, bowls of hyacinths and daffodils plus lots of candles help

itwaseverthus · 05/01/2020 18:40

@BillieEillish enjoy the five plus hours you still have before dry January starts, have one for me Grin Wine

blibblibs · 05/01/2020 18:46

Ours is still up and no plans to take it down. Its only the tree that's left but we moved a table to fit in the tree and we all like the tables new home but can't leave its old space empty as it will just look silly, so the tree is staying until we have decided what's going to fill the space.
But I like the lights and it's not in the way so all good.

Fifteenthnamechange · 05/01/2020 18:49

I'm with you OP. I always feel sad when the tree & decs come down. Hate Christmas being over. So I'm another one who left some fairy lights up around our shelves in living room.
I also dread the return to school/work. Starting to hate my job & I find the school merry go round exhausting. I think my DC do too.

Leadershipmaterial · 05/01/2020 18:50

Jace what a beautiful cat and such a cosy looking scene 🤗

TheSubtleArt · 05/01/2020 18:53

Loved this Christmas. All chilled and relaxed by Christmas Eve, despite all the chaos in the run up. Means tomorrow will hit hard going back to work & kids back at school.
I'm sulking and therefore not doing dry January, but am running every other day as my new year resolution.

Knowing this season is over, I personally dread the summer heat, flying buzzy things, night time sweating & clothes..roll on next Autumn. So much more suited to that time of year.

crimsonlake · 05/01/2020 19:04

Since it is not yet 12th night why have you taken them down?
Mine will be up until 6 of Jan as usual and I will be keeping that ' hygge' feeling with lots of candles, lights and cosy blankets. We need a bit of sparkle to brighten up the next dreary couple of months.

Roussette · 05/01/2020 19:08

I'd have them up just a few nights given half the chance. It's only the faff of getting them all out that makes me leave them up longer than Christmas Eve to Boxing Day!

But I'm a summer person and hate the winter so that might be why. And my adult DCs love Christmas but obviously arent here for a month!

Christmastreedown · 05/01/2020 19:09

YANBU

My kids and I are feeling rubbish that they are back to school and I am back to work tomorrow.

Mother87 · 05/01/2020 19:13

I wanted to take everything down as it was our first Christmas without my dad...so I was half-hearted about putting them up anyway this year. HAVE left the fairy lights up in the kitchen though as they make it cosier...
