To think Dominic Cummings needs a clip round the ear?

I mean, really, who does he think he is? He looks like Chris Evans’ scruffier older brother (with apologies to Chris Evans) and behaves like someone who wasn’t allowed into one of those dining societies at Oxford and is now extracting Revenge of the Nerds. And what’s with the privately educated, Oxford graduate bemoaning the high numbers of privately educated Oxbridge graduates in the Civil Service? A complete lack of self awareness to realise he is the problem.

I do think that the Civil Service will have him for breakfast though.

The one that pp said they climbed out of, for instance. I wouldn’t call them that, that’s why I put it in quotes.

There’s a lot of disdain in metropolitan Britain for the places a lot of people came from. That doesn’t help social cohesion.

But you have no idea what I meant by that. Confused

thejollyroger · 06/01/2020 09:55

It certainly isn’t the place I came from.

Having been a supplier to UK government for well over 30 years they 100% need an overhaul. Lots of cottage industries whereby decisions are put off, many meetings arranged, decisions put off, many meetings arranged for months on end. The waste is criminal. People stay in their roles for the gold plated pensions even if they are useless. I sadly met lots who couldn’t manage their way out of a paper bag

Dom bares his bum

This twitter video shows you all you need to know about how DC respects authority.

Whatafustercluck · 07/01/2020 08:45

A colleague and good friend worked as quite a senior civil servant in the Home Office. She's absolutely brilliant - and not Oxbridge educated. DC is prepared to throw the baby out with the bath water for the sole reason of destabilising everything and will stop at nothing in order to achieve chaos. Indeed I firmly believe he will be the architect of the UK supporting the US in a war against Iran. Johnson is not in control of the Government, DC is. He is a terrifying individual. Every time I see the scruffy little twat I want to slap him senseless. An unelected Oxford humanities graduate who bemoans the Government being run by Oxbridge humanities graduates and wants to leave the EU because of 'unelected bureaucrats'. Hypocrite much? He's clearly someone who suffers from Napoleon Complex and is the kind of individual I could imagine as a mug shot on tv, having run amok with a gun on a university campus. But instead he's in control of the Government in all but name.

The thing is, there’s nothing actually wrong with humanities graduates, is there? 😂 Many of them are good, smart people. The ironic thing as you say is that he bitches about the dominance of them over the Civil Service from the position of being... an Oxbridge Humanities graduate. In other words, he thinks people like him and Johnson (Oxbridge Humanities grads both) should run the show, and they should have lots of techy monkeys to put the models together!

Please see my thread about clogging up DC’s email with your job applications.

I am applying as a communications expert so here is the link to his job spec page dominiccummings.com/ as well as a nice screen grab of his email address.

A lot of the day-to-day work across the CS is being carried out by young, competitive and 'hungry' contractors working for a handful of large consulting agencies. Contractors from these agencies control several layers of the CS ranging from very senior to junior. They are obviously not permanent employees, earn shed loads of money and are often privately educated. Moving roles across the CS frequently means that they are not experts in any one subject area but rather interchangeable and it also means there is largely no workplace consistency or identity. Also, there are many loopholes regarding tax and contractors on stellar day rates often have ways to pay very little tax Hmm

I am curious to see how DC's approach ties in with the way contractors are currently running profiting from the CS.

BaolFan · 07/01/2020 10:08

Hmmm.

I'm always a bit suspicious of things like this. Smacks of a stunt.

Look at my right hand - look at it waving around and making a big show of itself. Don't look at my left hand, because that's up to something that I don't want you to notice just yet...

bingoitsadingo · 07/01/2020 10:46

To whoever made the point above about asking for internship experience being discriminatory against people who can't afford to do internships...
The type of internship experience he is asking for would typically pay an amount of money comparable pro-rata to a low graduate salary. Certainly better than any usual student's holiday job in a pub or supermarket.

Personally, as a remainer and left wing voter, I think Dominic Cummings is the only good thing about the current tory government.

And yet still, I wouldn’t have been able to take it up, because it would have meant resigning my actual job, the one that paid my rent and bills.

JediJim · 05/02/2020 18:48

Did anyone see a clip of Dominic Cummings on Good Morning Britain yesterday? Dominic Cummings was in the street and a journalist was asking him a few simple questions, Cummings got all aggressive saying something like ‘ is that all you’ve got to say?,repeatedly before waking off.
Piers Morgan branded him a bully and seems to think Cummings has banned the Tories from going on GMB.
Cummings seems like a really nasty individual, I doubt he gives a toss about the electorate that recently voted Boris in with his policies. After all Cummings was the brainchild behind the Tories most successful campaign since 1987.

HavelockVetinari · 05/02/2020 18:57

I think part of the reason Cummings hates the civil service is the Civil Service Code and Managing Public Money (HM Treasury document explaining the checks and balances required before spending tax-payers' money). He wants to be able to award contracts and grants to his preferred recipient rather than go through fair and open processes, to be able to spend tax-payers' money how he sees fit rather than according to regularity, proprietary, value for money and feasibility. Those 4 things aren't sexy or cool, but necessary to stop politicians bunging cash and lucrative contracts to their mates and going for popular soundbites over actual evidence-based policy-making.

ForalltheSaints · 05/02/2020 19:05

I disagree with the OP.

Dismissal would be the best thing to do. He seems even more dishonest that Mr Johnson.

Jellykat · 05/02/2020 19:34

I've always thought Cummings has a look in his eyes i have seen many times..
That of someone who got lost in a field somewhere after one too many Es, and never quite came back!
His intelligence may have remained, but hes a shifty little weasel.
