To think you can’t have two good sleepers?

Expecting my second baby. First has been a brilliant sleeper. Have this sense of dread that the second will be a different story but also hoping there’s some chance I could get lucky again! Anyone had two good sleepers?

OP posts:
christmaskit · 04/01/2020 23:46

All 4 DC were good sleepers.
Latest to sleep through was 10 weeks.
HOWEVER, oldest 2 DCs are very difficult to rouse now, so perhaps there is a payoff... ?
Kept my sanity in the early years though and I appreciate we were very lucky.

Whatafustercluck · 05/01/2020 00:00

Two good ones here Smile I try not to gloat too much that we even get lie-ins until at least 8am most weekends (they're 3 and 9 now though).

yikesanotherbooboo · 05/01/2020 08:19

One of my 3 DC ( middle) was a good sleeper .
My DSis had 2 fantastic sleepers and then a horror.
I think it is largely inbuilt although it can be influenced a bit.

Bouncebacker · 05/01/2020 08:31

Two bad sleepers here.... 4 and 8 now and still persisting - woke up with them both in my bed this morning

allyouneedis · 05/01/2020 08:32

First one sleep through at 6 weeks second at 8 weeks so it can happen 🤞🏻

Sweetpeach3 · 05/01/2020 08:36

It happens.
My first was an angel an slept.
Second didn't sleep for longer then an hour until 18months
But now my second (2)goes to bed on her own an sleeps through
My first only goes to bed with me or dp an he will sometimes wake (3)
Tables turned!!! Haha xx

I did. Pure fluke I'm sure but was v lucky

cptartapp · 05/01/2020 08:41

Mine were good sleepers, undisturbed nights from about three and four months respectively. I stopped bf, put them in their own rooms, filled them with porridge at bedtime and they never ever ever came into our bed. Quite happy to let them grizzle too.

MelroseHigginbottom · 05/01/2020 08:45

My first is the worst sleeper I've ever known. He wouldn't sleep more than 45 minutes at a time through the night during one long stage and got up at 4am.

I'm expecting my second. There will only be 15 months between them. I hope to God number 2 is a good sleeper. Don't know how I'll cope otherwise.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 05/01/2020 08:55

2 bad sleepers here. Eldest woke every 45mins and was up for the day at 5am. He's still an early bird but generally sleeps through from 7 til 6.
Youngest still wakes about midnight every night and eventually sneaks into our bed.
He slept for 3/4hrs at a time until he was about 18mo which felt like a dream after dc1. Has slept straight through the night twice in his whole life.
Good luck.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/01/2020 08:59

Both mine slept through from about 10 weeks and were really good sleepers. So it does happen!

Skyejuly · 05/01/2020 09:01

1st and 2nd amazing sleepers. No stress at all. 3rd was horrific and 4th is so so. Saying that the 1st and 2nd now give me sleepless nights as they are teenagers and I would give anything to be up all night with a baby rather than worrying about them. :(

Trafalger · 05/01/2020 09:01

1 amazing sleeper and 1 awful sleeper. They still don't sleep properly at nearly 3.

whatnow40 · 05/01/2020 09:48

Agree, you have to hand back the perfect sleeper token when you have a 2nd. It's a one time only deal, it's not fair otherwise. Have you not read the rules? Hmm

Furrydogmum · 05/01/2020 10:17

Both of mine were sleeping through from very early on, only issues when teething. Now at 18 and 22 (yrs) they're able to sleep 24hrs!! 😬

lanbro · 05/01/2020 10:20

2 good sleepers here, both slept thru at around 12 weeks and continued to do so bar illness, teething etc. More issues now with stopping 6 year old getting in with me through the night!

AmazingGreats · 05/01/2020 10:22

1 good sleeper, 1 average sleeper, 1 rubbish sleeper

I think it's just who they are. My good sleeper just loves sleep. The average sleeper likes sleep but only in the right conditions. My rubbish sleeper has never been a good sleeper.

I am a rubbish sleeper too though, so I'm amazed I didn't get 3 rubbish sleepers.

GinNotGym19 · 05/01/2020 10:22

I have 2 good sleepers!

BertieBotts · 05/01/2020 10:24

Well I have two bad ones but in different ways? DS1 nightmare taking hours to get off to sleep but once asleep would sleep for hours like the dead. DS2 fairly simple to get off but has never slept longer than 5 hours in his life and even this is a rare treat, mostly he does 1-3 hour stretches and he is 16mo.

QuietCrotchgoblins · 05/01/2020 10:25

I've had 2 awful sleepers. Still waiting for a decent run of sleep 5 years in!

Babdoc · 05/01/2020 10:39

Both my DDs slept through from 8 weeks. They had dummies and were formula fed. I had their cot next to my bed for the first year, to reassure them. If they woke in the night, they didn’t cry - you would see them grope around for their dummy and pop it back in with a contented sigh, then suck themselves back to sleep!

PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 05/01/2020 10:53

Two good sleepers here. Eldest now 12 and still loves nothing more than sleeping! But like a pp said, I think a lot of it was down to a bit of 'sleep training' as babies and letting them cry it out. Didn't take long for a routine after that. Each to their own.

Laiste · 05/01/2020 10:54

4 good sleepers here :)

TwoZeroTwoZero · 05/01/2020 11:29

I did. Both dc slept 7-7 from around a month old (there were a few blips with dc2 but they didn't last long).

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/01/2020 12:18

I think people don't bother to mention if there is no problem with something, unless they are specifically asked. But they do mention if there is a problem, because they hope for help with it.

So it looks as if there are many more babies who are bad sleepers than there are who are good ones, because the bad ones and people desperate for advice is what you see all the time.

This thread rather seems to show that it isn't that bad!

I hope you get another one who lets you get a decent night's sleep, OP.
