To start a new savings thread...by putting away the monetary equivalent of the waste I throw away every week!

As it says ... I waste so much money each week overbuying food that ends up in the bin, it's criminal!
I have just put a jar in the kitchen and after throwing away stale Xmas cake, fossilised fruit, seriously OODyogurts from sons packed lunch shelf that never got used or eaten in the holidays etc I have already put in nearly £8 and when I clean the Christmas crap and fridge out on Monday (back to school) I can see that tripling, I have already given unliked chocolates my son insisted he loved prepurchase but actually doesnt away (luckily I can't eat anything wirh gluten in as I would be twice as large as I am now and I am already the size of a three bed semi)
I am going to put the monetary value in the jar each week even down to the half loaves of bread or sad floppy carrots left over and either start being more mindful about waste or plan a holiday at the end of the year with our proceeds!(or possibly donate the money saved to our local food bank seeing as we clearly don't need it Hmm)
Anyone else joining me in my shameful challenge? Smile

I don’t think I waste enough for much to be saved. Too, I’m contrary and would deliberately waste stuff so I could add money to the pot.
But you’ve inspired me to participate somehow. How about, I’ll put money aside each time we eat leftovers? That is the one area of food waste we really could improve on.

PlanDe you're not wasting money if you are managing to resuse left overs, but I like your idea of you putting the money you have saved by eating left overs away that would work and a nicer achievement. I think with us it's just the ridiculous amount I throw away, it's shameful esp as where I live there are so many people on the streets in recent years.

Can you slice and freeze the bread?
And there’s nothing wrong with floppy carrots. Use them!!
