Using code 'Player' Hmm

Utterly naff. MN should know better. Never heard of the company. Bad taste.

Trumpton · 04/01/2020 04:04

I thought the same when it appeared.

Bluerussian · 04/01/2020 04:08

I wouldn't have seen it like that though you may be right. When I was young people used to send 'fun' Valentine cards, sometimes with amusing verse, unsigned, the idea being that you wouldn't know who sent it. I think that is still done in America, amongst school children. I remember my mum sending me one once when I was a kid at school because I was sure I wouldn't receive one. I didn't know it was from her, she'd printed my name and address on the envelope but it upset me and I cried; It said something like, "Some may think you're pretty but really you're pretty awful". I was 12. Then she told me it was her who sent it.

Valentine's day is way too serious now, imo. Husband and I always gave each other cards every year though but of course we knew they were from us.

Toomanygerbils · 04/01/2020 04:09

It’s pretty poor advertising, no one here is likely to do a buy one get one free deal. Are Mumsnet so desperate for sponsorship they will try to sell this????

DreamsAboutSummer · 04/01/2020 04:32

I didn't see that one, but right now I can see this one, so clearly they've tailored my advertising to something which I've been searching for... Hmm

Valentine Cards can be given to anyone you love - spouse/partner, children, your Granny...
As someone already said in America children give them to each other. Have you never seen the Simpsons where Lisa gives one to Ralph (because no one else did)?
"I Choo Choose You"

MashedSpud · 04/01/2020 04:35

Mine is now a glamping experience in France, I haven’t searched for glamping or valentines cards.

Bookmum I agree but using the word 'player' as a discount code suggests the company sees it differently.

MashedSpud · 04/01/2020 04:37

@bookmum08 not with a promo code “player”.

DreamsAboutSummer · 04/01/2020 04:38

Oh, and my husband and I have a valentines day card each which came with a box. Every year we bring them out (if we remember) so that people don't start telling us that we're "not romantic" or "we must buy one" or, or, or

FYI we are romantic at random times of the year, we don't need a hallmark holiday to know how much we love each other and how bloody lucky we are to be with each other! Especially when you see how many others aren't. Valentines day is just another way to make single people feel awful.

DreamsAboutSummer · 04/01/2020 04:40

Again I've got a Europe is cooler in winter, but I don't know if that's random or linked to the fact I've been searching for cheap city breaks to get away for a few days...

sobeyondthehills · 04/01/2020 04:40

TBF That is shit but mine is from something called Damenson, but it has switched in between me writing this message to cattitude box.

Both of which I now expect to see everyday for the next month

bookmum08 · 04/01/2020 04:42

OK maybe with the 'player' code it sounds a bit naff but lots of card companies do offers on buying more than one valentine card so I still think 'meh' on the whole thing.

Mesacasa · 04/01/2020 04:51

Look in the top right. You see that little triangle, it's the Ad Choices Mark. Pretty sure that that ad pops up based on your previous internet searches. It's nothing to do with Mumsnet.

GinDaddy · 04/01/2020 05:03

YABU, it's just an ad. No one on this hysterical, pearl-clutching board is going to take an action after seeing that ad that they wouldn't have taken before.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/01/2020 05:12

Is it worth having a sticky thread somewhere that explains hat MN don’t chose the ads and what to do if you see one you think is inappropriate?

Theroigne · 04/01/2020 05:17

YANBU, Love Layla does horrible, bad taste and really unfunny cards IMO. I don’t respect MN for advertising anything from this tacky company Hmm

ChestnutSmoothie · 04/01/2020 05:35

You lot are becoming parodies of yourselves.

It’s a FUCKING JOKE.

Frothybothie · 04/01/2020 08:32

What if you are bisexual and want to send to lovers of both sexes? Biphobes, all a bunch of biphobes. Throwing toys out of cot and crossing arms aka daily mail meets greety thunderbird.

CircleofWillis · 04/01/2020 08:44

Frothy, being bisexual doesn't mean you are more likely to be unfaithful. It is the 'player' code that most people are objecting to. An open relationship is different and can be experienced by people of any sexuality.

AppleKatie · 04/01/2020 08:49

I’m pretty sure it’s a joke- not you know, a handy how to guide to infidelity.
😂

BraveSpiritKindHeart · 04/01/2020 09:42

LOVE LAYLA cards are fucking hideous as well. Naff and not funny in the slightest.

Lololol it's amazing that got approved as a promo code! Maybe someone implemented it when they were as high as a kite.
