Hi sorry I'm posting for traffic.

Just wondering if it's worth doing the Sun's holiday deal thing that's starting soon?

Has anyone has any experience? Do you really get a cheaper deal or are there loads of hidden extra that when added up, means you haven't saved much at all.

Oh and second the Facebook page for info - they post the codes and the booking links, however beware actually posting a question as they can be a prickly bunch 😬

LagunaBubbles · 04/01/2020 14:34

LagunaBubbles £9.50 a night? I thought it was £9.50 per person per holiday booked?

Oops sorry I meant per person! Blush

Chocolatemouse84 · 04/01/2020 16:16

We've done them a few times at a few different parks. We have had them price up as little as roughly £100 a weekend for the 4 of us but last time we went to a popular park in peak time and it was actually roughly the same price if we had booked through the park. Always had a good time but we enjoy those caravan type holidays so know what to expect.

averythinline · 04/01/2020 16:24

they are very hit and miss - we did one in kent when dc little to do the dymchurch mini railway - horrific,
haven dorest nr exmouth much better although teh softplay was in the middle of slot machines so looked like kids were in prison...v strange and the beach was empty so fab for us
one near weymouth good - but we know the area so didnt use the park facilities at all just a base to go monkey world etc..
again camber - just s base never went to anyof the entertainment...fine good caravan near the beach..

so if going to use the pools etc look at the better havens - wouldnt use park resorts , wouldnt go to kent/hastings -

we dont like entertainments and they dont sell beer/wine we would drink

if you like entertainements/fun fair type stuff I think butlins has more and they seem to do good offers as well....

SouthsideOwl · 04/01/2020 16:57

If you're in Scotland the Daily Record one is starting next week too, from £10 but imo the options are much nicer and more locations. Think the daily mirror is the same in England

piefacedClique · 04/01/2020 20:08

I wish they still did the Disneyland Paris ones. They were amazing

monkeysox · 04/01/2020 20:25

Dear lord no. Never again.
Three nights pontins Southport. 100 pounds.
We stayed one night. Horrendous.

ViciousJackdaw · 04/01/2020 20:29

Let monkeysox post be a warning - do not take your s*n holiday in a Merseyside based location. Those who buy that rag are pretty much guaranteed to be given the shittiest rooms.

happycamper11 · 04/01/2020 20:45

@monkeysox you should probably have checked the reviews.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/01/2020 20:45

All of Pontins in Southport is shit though, apparently. Nothing to do with The Sun!

StylishMummy · 04/01/2020 21:11

There's a lot of BS on this post!

You choose 4 dates and 4 destinations but if what you want is available then you get the first choice.

So we booked a Monday to Friday and then Friday to Monday back to back, called the park and they amalgamated the bookings to make 1 full week.

There are £9.50 only dates which have no additional charges, it's per person, NOT PER NIGHT. So fri-mon is the same price as mon-Fri. So a family of 4 pay £38 for a £9,50 only break.

We've been doing these for years and haven't ever faced 'riff-raff', although TBF we always upgrade.

Ruda in Croyde bay, parkdean Heacham Beach in Norfolk, Burnham on Sea haven, Looe in Cornwall, all minimum £400 for a basic break and yet we pay less than £100. It's a good saving if you can be arsed to search for the good dates in the nice parks and maybe catch a cheap upgrade.

Ideal as a base to explore & the haven sites are extremely well equipped, second only to centre parcs.

crustycrab · 04/01/2020 21:17

Other than the riff raff comments (which are obviously personal opinion) i haven't seen the BS you mention here.

PinkiOcelot · 04/01/2020 21:18

Yes. We did them a lot when dc were younger. Really enjoyed them. There are a few extras to add, but still cheap.

Figgygal · 04/01/2020 21:27

They’re nothing like that cheap
Only been on 1 in Brixham Devon which was a John Fowler and it was nasty

Sayhellotothethings · 04/01/2020 21:30

We do them and they save us a lot of money. Not had a bad experience yet. One caravan smelt of smoke once so we got upgraded after I complained but that's one minor inconvenience and we have done about 6 Sun holidays.

happycamper11 · 04/01/2020 21:39

There's a park in Devon I see on the Facebook page when people post pictures. It's chalets in the woods rather than caravans and there are deer, ducks and squirrels that roam among them and come right up to your door. I'm sure the same one has an outdoor pool too. I think I'd use the sun deal for it all the time if it wasn't for the fact I live in central Scotland's and not really keen to do the drive as the only adult with 2 dc

Gazelda · 04/01/2020 21:52

Were giving this a go for the first time this year. Just a 3 night break, and we'll use the accom as a base to explore the area. So it doesn't really matter too much if the site is basic.

Goldwispa · 04/01/2020 21:54

When do the sun holidays start?

StylishMummy · 04/01/2020 21:59

£62.50 paid for 4 nights in croyde - on £15 only deal last year

Rockbird · 05/01/2020 12:09

I can't see the link on the page to start collecting. It say 'click start collecting' but it isn't there!

nevermorelenore · 06/01/2020 16:51

@Rockbird there's a thread with codes here: forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=76674671
