To think parents can spend an hour in an trampoline park without alcohol

Our local trampoline park has started to sell alcohol. I'm not impressed and won't be going back. This should be a safe space where children don't see adults drinking

Biscuit for you!

imamearcat · 03/01/2020 15:40

Why would it make it unsafe?

Arnoldthecat · 03/01/2020 15:40

Sadly alcohol is so embedded in British culture that its consumption has become normalised in almost every daily activity.

Shallwedothis · 03/01/2020 15:40

That's weird! I cant imagine anyone having a drink while taking the kids to jump

PositiveVibez · 03/01/2020 15:42

Well don't go back then. Nobody is forcing you.

I doubt there will be many drinking adults there anyway as they more than likely will have driven there.

RochelleGoyle · 03/01/2020 15:44

I tend to agree. There shouldn't really be booze in an environment which is specifically for kids and where there's going to be lots of boisterous behaviour. If you want a drink why not go to a family pub/restaurant?

RedskyAtnight · 03/01/2020 15:44

Presumably anyone drinking won't be allowed to jump, so not sure why this will make it not a safe space?

I can't imagine a parent just taking a child to the park will want to drink, but possibly this is aimed more at parents attending parties - and it's not that uncommon for a children's party in, say, a village hall to serve alcohol to adults.

I can't imagine there will be much of a take up rate, but presumably the place has done their market research and thinks people want this?

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 15:45

Isn't it more aimed at adult jump sessions in the evening?

TimeAfterTimeAfter · 03/01/2020 15:45

I also don't really know why you'd want to. Think it's a bit weird that they've identified it as enough of a selling point to go to all the trouble of getting a licence. It does seem inappropriate as well - kind of like cracking open a tinny when you're in the kiddies' playpark, which itself feels different from, say, having a wee picnic in the park with a glass of fizz, but I don't know why.

aroundtheworldyet · 03/01/2020 15:46

I’d fucking need a drink in a trampoline park watching kids.

Picklypickles · 03/01/2020 15:46

Just because they are selling it that doesn't necessarily mean everyone is going to be falling over themselves to buy it. I wouldn't have thought most parents would bother. Also, not sure about your trampoline park but our local one isn't solely for the use of children.

LoseLooseLucy · 03/01/2020 15:47

I’d fucking need a drink in a trampoline park watching kids.

Our local trampoline park also has a high wire course. I was shaking so much having made it off alive I needed a glass of wine. I managed to get us all home safely - on public transport.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 03/01/2020 15:49

I’d fucking need a drink in a trampoline park watching kids.

Our church has an all day alcohol licence. Just saying Grin

Runningonempty84 · 03/01/2020 15:49

Oh ffs. Lighten up, OP.

All sorts of age groups go to trampoline parks; so it doesn't have to be a case of parents getting pissed while the kids jump. My local one feels a bit like a club anyway (dark, noisy, loud music, blah blah blah) so I can see why you might want a beer.

And for the record, I'm teetotal. I just don't have an issue with others having a drink.

MaryBoBary · 03/01/2020 15:52

I agree with pp that our local trampoline place does evening events and park our for adults. Presumably they are the target market for alcohol... Not parents who are there with their kids Hmm

hidinginthenightgarden · 03/01/2020 15:57

I don't like the idea of adults drinking on trampolines. People get hurt in those when sober, but would guess that they can't do both.

CosmoK · 03/01/2020 15:59

You know it's okay for kids to see adults drinking alcohol right?

LA115 · 03/01/2020 16:00

I like a drink as much as the next person, but it just seems such an odd place to serve alcohol

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/01/2020 16:13

Parents can spend an hour without coffee or a KitKat too. Do you have any problem with the cafe selling those items?

thejollyroger · 03/01/2020 16:15

I agree that people should be able to spend an hour in a trampoline park without alcohol. I suspect the vast majority will continue to do just that. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t sell it. They’re a business, trying to turn a profit.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 03/01/2020 16:16

Ahhh, a MN alcohol thread - one of my faves!

Why is it odd to serve alcohol there? Presumably, parents aren't getting shitfaced while their little terrors jump around. Maybe they just want a glass of wine while they wait for little Susie and Timmy to finish bouncing. I'm pretty sure Susie and Timmy have seen mummy neck a few bottles back before telling fellow MNetters all those who even sniff alcohol should go to rehab.

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 16:38

These places are always hugely over priced anyway. No one is going to get hammered in the space one an hour on mini bottles of wine at £7 a pop and diving about putting kids in danger in between. Maybe adults at a party who aren't jumping might have one while waiting.

adaline · 03/01/2020 16:40

Presumably you don't go anywhere that sells alcohol then?

I mean, heaven forbid a child sees a parent enjoying a glass of wine with a meal Hmm

ActualHornist · 03/01/2020 16:43

So your issue is with children seeing an adult drinking? Not that a drunk person could drive there and back? Or that a child could be injured by a drunk person doing stupid stuff?

YABU and ridiculous btw.
