To think parents can spend an hour in an trampoline park without alcohol

Our local trampoline park has started to sell alcohol. I'm not impressed and won't be going back. This should be a safe space where children don't see adults drinking

It does seem inappropriate as well - kind of like cracking open a tinny when you're in the kiddies' playpark, which itself feels different from, say, having a wee picnic in the park with a glass of fizz, but I don't know why.

Class-related optics, I imagine. A picnic with a glass of fizz is much less "chavvy", even though it's functionally very similar.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/01/2020 16:50

I’d feel funny about it as well. I dislike daytime drinking especially in front of children and drinking in the evening whilst doing such an activity seems a risky.

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 16:50

@goodwinter maybe more acceptable if it's an artisan craft beer in a tin though.

SuperMumTum · 03/01/2020 16:52

Our local trampoline park sells alcohol. I've never seen anyone hammered. Most of the parents drink coffee while watching their kids but if someone fancied a pint I wouldn't think anything of it. The kids wouldn't even notice.

thejollyroger · 03/01/2020 16:53

Exactly what type of alcohol you’re drinking being important is no more or less than hypocrisy and classism. A nice craft ale, a glass of “fizz” or a can of White Lightning: it’s all the same stuff at the end of the day.

misspiggy19 · 03/01/2020 16:53

What kind of tragic person needs an alcoholic drink at a trampoline park?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 03/01/2020 17:02

Nobody NEEDS a drink anywhere, unless they’re an alcoholic. Why does it bother you so much that someone might WANT one?

Ponoka7 · 03/01/2020 17:06

Are people allowed to go on the trampolines as they drink?

I could see the appeal to adult groups, but there's going to be a load of injuries Grin

Sockypuppet · 03/01/2020 17:07

It's also okay for kids not to see adults drink. To see them enjoy themselves without alcohol. Like seriously they won't be harmed at all.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2020 17:08

I have no issue with children seeing adults drinking. Alcohol at a trampoline park though could have some consequences. Smile

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 03/01/2020 17:09

I find that a little weird. That in itself is odd considering that the soft play facility in our holiday park in Belgium has a bar attached!! Maybe it's the 'holiday' part that makes it OK there Grin

Sockypuppet · 03/01/2020 17:11

People are deliberately misconstuing the OP. We all know that anywhere alcohol is served/consumed, you get a higher risk of obnoxious behaviour. I love alcohol-free parks, for instance, you just know it will be chill and nice. Why the hell do English people have to have alcohol everywhere?

Pop2017 · 03/01/2020 17:12

Absolutely. I agree. A theme park local to me started selling alcohol. It ain’t bloody Alton towers but a small family farm park type thing. What’s the need for people to drink alcohol?

Like you said you won’t spend long there so why would you even need a drink?

Baffles me too.

sirfredfredgeorge · 03/01/2020 17:12

But adults standing around a trampoline park will not be seen "enjoying themselves without alcohol" since all they're doing is standing around, if kids think that looks fun then they need their eyes opened to other possibilities.

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 17:14

People can be arseholes without alcohol too you know

aroundtheworldyet · 03/01/2020 17:15

Adults in parks are always arseholes. Booze or no booze.

TARSCOUT · 03/01/2020 17:15

Just like adults consuming alcohol at the 2pm pantomime, honestly I think it really is quite sad.

Sockypuppet · 03/01/2020 17:16

So the only options are "standing around" (presumably staring silently into space" or drinking (presumably instant fun)?

Not possible to lark about, chat, catch up with friends?

(Do you realise how grim you sound?)

AugustFalls · 03/01/2020 17:17

This is definitely for adult parties. I’m pretty sure every one of these places have ‘over 18’ nights - that’s there target. Anyone else buying is a bonus.

Sockypuppet · 03/01/2020 17:17

Yeah people can be arseholes without booze. I'm stone sober atm for instance. But we have to try a lot harder.

thejollyroger · 03/01/2020 17:18

It's also okay for kids not to see adults drink. To see them enjoy themselves without alcohol

Of course it is, but that’s something to take up with individual parents, if their children never see them without a drink in their hands.

AugustFalls · 03/01/2020 17:19

This should be a safe space where children don't see adults drinking

Though what in the world does this mean? A ‘safe space’ from seeing adults drinking? Confused

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 03/01/2020 17:19

I don’t think it’s particularly surprising or weird compared with anywhere else that alcohol is served in this country. We sell it on trains and in cinemas, why not at the park?

But since going sober last year I must admit I’ve started to really question why we need alcohol in any of those places. I don’t mean to sound judgy as they’re all places I used to happily drink myself. But now I see people clutching their plastic cups of crappy cheap wine at the cinema and can’t help wondering... why?

MidiMitch · 03/01/2020 17:21

I just don't see why this would worry you. I have always offered parents a glass of fizz/beer/wine at DC's birthday parties. I don't see any harm in it.

ShadowSteam · 03/01/2020 17:24

It does seem an odd place to serve alcohol, it’s not like people are there for long or likely to be having a proper meal there.

It’s especially odd if they let adults on the trampolines - the trampoline parks near us let adults bounce on the trampolines - alcohol and trampolining sounds like a dangerous combination!
