AIBU to think that McDonalds need to up their vegan game

As a vegan the start of veganuary is always really exciting when all the new companies bring out their vegan stuff - this year seems to be particularly great - Greggs have brought the vegan steak bake, kfc have their vegan burger and McDonald’s....well they’ve taken the horrible goujon things they have in their veggie burger, sold them separately and marketed them as a new vegan meal! Grin AIBU to think that they need to seriously up their game?

Gougons. I don’t think any gouging has taken place.

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2020 21:31

I mean goujons. Blush

Long day.

RollingOutOfBed · 02/01/2020 21:32

Having tasted the goujons I think I might choose the gouging next time if it's on offer.

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2020 21:35

Grin rolling

Legocitymyarse · 02/01/2020 21:35

I'm vegetarian and eat fairly regularly (once a month?) in McD's as the dc love it now and then. I never order anything marketed as vegetarian as the ones I've had there in the past were not nice. So I just eat fries. They might therefore think their veggie stuff isn't in demand when it's the low quality/taste of the stuff, rather than the absence of vegetarians eating there!

BellyButton85 · 02/01/2020 21:36

Because mcdonalds don't want vegans..like the rest of the world

SilverySurfer · 02/01/2020 21:38

If you expect McDonalds to cook vegan food for a tiny percentage of the population, perhaps you would let me know where the vegan restaurants are where I, as a meat eater, can get a fat, juicy steak?

They’ve produced a rubbish vegan meal with nasty gouging.

Sounds painful.

UndertheCedartree · 02/01/2020 21:39

@questionable - yes my son uses those vouchers to get the vegan burger and fries sometimes

scaredycatz · 02/01/2020 21:39

I thought it was something new I can't believe it's just those shitty goujons 😡Angry

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2020 21:40

By definition, vegan restaurants wouldn’t sell steaks.

McDonald’s doesn’t only sell meat products. It’s always had vegetarian options, not least the chips.

CactusAndCacti · 02/01/2020 21:40

Maybe this is MD's cunning plan, offer a rubbish offering and they can claim there is no demand.

RollingOutOfBed · 02/01/2020 21:40

Hmm If you're determined to make idiotic remarks, at least try to be original.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 02/01/2020 21:41

McDonald’s veggie goujons are their vegan dipper things? How disappointing, they’re so bland and tasteless.

Pedallleur · 02/01/2020 21:41

Odd that someone being vegan would go there. Plenty of other places but then I've met vegans/vegetarians who don't like vegetables!!.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 02/01/2020 21:41

offer a rubbish offering and they can claim there is no demand.

Probably. It’s what I’d do.

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2020 21:42

@PurpleDaisies

I can't remember who I meant and I don't feel like rereading the thread to find out 😂 Sorry.

@RollingOutOfBed I quite like them and when we sample them they seem to be well received. Everyone's tastes are different though so it makes sense not everyone is going to like them. If enough people emailed head office they'd probably bring the old recipe back, even if it's just as a promo.

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2020 21:43

Odd that someone being vegan would go there.
Because vegans never eat fast food?

bernt79 · 02/01/2020 21:44

Meat eater myself but vegan is becoming more mainstream and McDonalds are missing out on a growing market by ignoring it

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2020 21:45

@BellyButton85

It's not that. It's more than they don't want McDonald's 🤷🏻‍♀️ if the demand was there the products would come but there's simply not enough benefit in developing a new product that's going to sit in the freezer.

Bitchbadgerplease · 02/01/2020 21:45

To those who say vegans shouldn't want to go there, the majority of vegans shop at supermarkets and the like surely. How is there a difference. They also want more vegan options available to the general public so that the whole thing is more mainstream and people are more likely to try it,hopefully like it and perhaps support the more vegan friendly business in future. It isn't as simple as let's keep the two things separate as they're against each other

1Morewineplease · 02/01/2020 21:45

Exactly @QuestionableMouse
It’s all processed shite.

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2020 21:46

If the new product was good, it wouldn’t fit in the freezer. The problem with the current product is it’s rubbish.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 02/01/2020 21:47

Why is it so surprising that vegans or vegetarians would want to go to McDonald’s? Being vegan doesn’t mean that you don’t enjoy the taste of fast food, many people haven’t been vegan their entire lives and so have experienced McDonalds in the past, and might actually miss it. What if your friends/family pop in, are you supposed to awkwardly wait outside until they finish? What if you live/work conveniently near one and are happy for another cheap lunch addition?

Yes the most strict will avoid McDonalds due to their animal cruelty/the fact that they sell animal products however not everyone is on that extreme end of the scale. I’m happy that vegan and vegetarian options are becoming more commonplace.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 02/01/2020 21:47

I'm a vegan as is my boyfriend. We have 3 children between us and McDonalds is a cheap and easy way to feed them if we're out. It would be nice to have a choice of things to eat...the wrap is ok but gets a bit boring after a while.

For those criticising vegans for going to McDonalds when the majority of their income comes from meat/dairy etc...do you also think we're hypocrites for shopping at supermarkets? Very few places are exclusively vegan and I can't live off air.

Namestranger · 02/01/2020 21:50

Byron are doing those Beyond Meat ones and they're bloody DELICIOUS. I was never that fussed about actual beef burgers before going Vegan but DP loves burgers. Now I find the PB ones much less heavy and dense.
