To be sick to death of dog dirt in front of our property!

Hi all, I'm sick to my back teeth of dog dirt left outside my property each night! This has been going on for a couple of weeks now, and who ever it is is coming after dark! So I've no idea who! But most mornings I wake up to a new pile of dog dirt in front of the house! Or smeared up the pavement where some poor soal has stepped in it! I know it's not actually our property, just the pavement out front but I'm sick of coming out of the house with my child and having to make sure they don't step in it!
I thought about putting up a sign, but I don't know if it's really my place too! I've even thought about trying to keep watch and confront them, but the hedge at the front is high so not easy to do really! I'd literally have to wait around outside.
I've cleaned it with boiling water, but why should I have to! We don't even have a dog. Any ideas welcome ladies?

Put up the sign snd say you have photos of them and will report to the council if it continues.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 02/01/2020 08:04

Security lighting that is sensitive enough to cover the area where the dog is going.
If it is always in the same place then it is probably the same dog living close by who is being taken for a short late walk before bed.

CaptainCabinets · 02/01/2020 08:13

Oh how vile! I can’t imagine ever just walking away and leaving my dog’s poo on the pavement, let alone making a habit of it!

I know it’s not your responsibility but could you leave some cheap poo bags on your gate or something so the owner knows you’re onto them and feels obliged to pick up the turds? Just to try and get them to pick it up so you don’t step in it every day!

Nicecupofcoco · 02/01/2020 08:18

Yes @Dontsweatthelittlestuff that's what I thought! I've reported to council this morning but not sure anything will be done! Our security light doesn't quite cover the front of the hedge unfortunately. They obviously feel out of view of us, with the hedge being there!
Yeah I did think of leaving a sign sayhello I might try that! Thank you both.

@captaincabinets that's a good idea, I think I'll try that tonight! Thank you!
Yes it's grim! I've given up cleaning it, because it's just happening each night, but I guess with me not cleaning it up the dog will keep doing it's business there won't it.... Sigh!

Try shaming the owners by putting out some rubber gloves and poo bags and a big red notices telling them to clean up theirs dog poo.

HelloAgainYou · 02/01/2020 13:07

We had a similar issue which was making my husband lose his shit (Grin). He was convinced a dog owner was letting his dog shit on our doorstep. Turned out to be the bloody foxes!

MRex · 02/01/2020 13:11

Round our way some fuckwit keeps putting poo in bags, then leaving the bags. Of course they splat everywhere when a car drives over them, leaving poo over an even bigger location, and little ones can as easily skid on a plastic bag and still end up covered in poo.

You can get discounts on CCTV cameras in the January sales, then share the results with the council. If the poo was nearer our house then I'd do it.

mencken · 02/01/2020 13:18

a sign may do the trick - it has outside my house where some skank was doing this. You can sometimes shame even the dirtiest into doing the right thing.

all dogs should be sold with a form to sign; 'I agree to pick up and carry excreta for 15 years'. Might make people think.

Frothybothie · 02/01/2020 13:22

Contact the council absolutely. Is it a council/social landlord area? Can the landlord esp if housing association do anything? Is there a tenants association?

Nicecupofcoco · 02/01/2020 13:39

@helloagainyou oh god, never thought of foxes! Grin how would I tell the difference? It is always after dark so guess it could be, but I just presumed it was a dog!
The property is owned by ourselves, alot of people do walk dogs along the road though.
The sign is up.... I'm hoping it does the trick!
The local council said they can come and clean the area, but unless I know who owns the dog that's doing it, nothing they can do.

The poo is smaller and has a more distinctive smell. We knew for sure as we caught the foxes on our CCTV. For good measure they even have sex on top of my husbands car. Grin

Don't rule it out! My husband was absolutely convinced it was dog owners being disrespectful, especially as we're a corner house and like you lots of dog walkers come up quite close to our property.

Rollonspringtime2020 · 02/01/2020 13:56

Cheap sprinkler system?

Si1ver · 02/01/2020 13:58

Can of spray paint, spray the dog poop in pink or similar.

sparepartalways · 02/01/2020 14:02

Same for us dh regularly has to go and clean it up with hot water and bleach/jeyes as it’s such a volume and everywhere and we have dc as do next door and it’s right by our entrance gate
I’ve been watching determined to catch whoever it is and trust me if I do they won’t be going anywhere till they pick it up

Nicecupofcoco · 02/01/2020 14:06

So frustrating isn't it sparepart?
Thanks @helloagainyou I guess it could be left by foxes! Will leave the sign up for a few days and see if it stops happening firstly. If not it might be best to invest in cctv.
Thanks all for your ideas!

Another one with similar experiences that turned out to be a fox (or foxes). Was finding little presents on our front path (houses here have not fences). Was cursing local dog owners ... right up till we had snow last year and sets of fucking fox prints turned up outside the house. Daily, as it turned out.

As townies, we appear to have lost the ability to connect the turd to the animal.

EKGEMS · 02/01/2020 17:08

I lived in a posh gated apartment last year and the management was so sick of dog waste not being collected (they had over half a dozen designated dog waste cans with free collection bags) they threatened DNA testing of uncollected waste and would then test all the dogs living there and would charge their owners for the testing in addition to fines-perhaps dna test threats on a sign?

Chocolatelover45 · 02/01/2020 17:28

Find out who it is then follow them home and post the shit through their letter box

ButterflyWitch · 02/01/2020 17:56

Fox poo tends to be narrower with 'twists' at the end IIRC

ButterflyWitch · 02/01/2020 17:58

I'm now googling pictures of wildlife poo Blush

belay · 02/01/2020 18:06

Strong Jeyes fluid to remove the scent and avoid repeat fouling

Somanysocks · 02/01/2020 18:33

all dogs should be sold with a form to sign; 'I agree to pick up and carry excreta for 15 years'. Might make people think.

But my dog, rest her soul, couldn't hold a pen Grin

furrybadger · 02/01/2020 18:43

Get a cheap cctv camera or a fake one put it up in view so whoever it is can see it, put it on the sign saying we have you on cctv that’ll soon stop them
