to think my neighbours are being unfair?

For background, and at the risk of sounding like a boast, we are on a ver naice housing estate, houses around the £700k mark. This is relevant.

There is a fence between us and next door. It’s their fence, we are responsible for the fence on the other side. They extended their garage backwards along the fence line. Three panels were damaged and despite loads of promises they never replaced them. So our boundary looks terrible, the garage has windows in it which overlook our garden while the fence panel isn’t there.

We have politely asked when they plan to fix it, they said they would but they couldn’t find anyone/tradesman didn’t turn up/getting more quotes.

Still not done. It pisses me off because I think we’ll why would anyone give up neighbourly goodwill etc for the sake of 3 panels? And say they were going to fix it and then not? They can’t see the panels but that doesn’t mean they’re not there! Argh!

DH is getting really cross about it and is muttering something about replacing the whole fence with max height panels (and sniper towers, search lights and razor wire...Wink) but I’d rather they just bloody fixed it.

Yep get whores and send them round.

That escalated quickly.

PAHAHAHAHAHA

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 02/01/2020 13:04

@GiveHerHellFromUs Nooooooo! My eyes.....

Shedidnt · 02/01/2020 13:04

I'm wondering actually, with windows in a shed whether they've plans for it to be a granny flat? I can't see the point in windows in a garage really. How big is the window? Will the fence obscure the windows?

1Morewineplease · 02/01/2020 13:05

The fact that they’ve put windows in suggests that there might be a change of usage. That would need reporting.
You need to get legal advice on this as soon as possible.
In the meantime, take three whores round, ask them to choose which one they prefer to go with then concrete their preferred choice in, directly in front of one of the windows.

BubblesBuddy · 02/01/2020 13:09

We have windows in our garage! That is not so unusual.

However, put your own fence up on your own land. It will take 6 inches from your garden but it will be very satisfying. 2 m high max. No more angst. Your choice of fence. You get not to see them or their manky fence. Obviously as you live there too, you can afford it! Just do it.

Shedidnt · 02/01/2020 13:17

I'm surprised you didn't object to a garage coming right up to your boundary (I would have). It takes away from the value of your house actually. It's there now so I guess fuck all you can do about it apart from replace the fence yourself (above the height of their window ideally).

Chloemol · 02/01/2020 13:26

Just replace the panels, at the height you sushi to cover the window

Chloemol · 02/01/2020 13:27

Wish not sushi!

Chloemol · 02/01/2020 13:29

Or drop them a note and say if it’s not done by xxx you will arrange for it to be done and invoice them for the work

billy1966 · 02/01/2020 13:29

I agree, right up against the boundary is CF territory, I would have thought.

I also think windows in a garage would be off putting to a buyer.

You could of course spray the window with a can of black paint as a simple way to retrieve your privacy!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 02/01/2020 13:31

@BanKittenHeels GrinGrin

SusanneLinder · 02/01/2020 13:34

Wish not sushi

Could you get sushi eating whores though?

Littletabbyocelot · 02/01/2020 13:36

We're in the process of extending in our back garden along the boundary. It's within permitted development but our builder advised us we required signed agreements from our neighbour. We had to adapt our planned glass roof as she felt it would be too close to a bedroom window. I would be speaking to the council

Shedidnt · 02/01/2020 13:39

Between sushi and whores marking the boundary, this thread is almost a candidate for classics lol

Swinesinsleepingbags · 02/01/2020 13:44

@TouYube I take offense at your change of word to Sex workers. They are not whores. The joke was because of an autocorrect mistake so was funny to try what you have written is offensive.

MitziK · 02/01/2020 13:44

How about sex workers dressed as gnomes making sushi?

Rather than Pyracantha (which is a brilliant shrub), I reckon that something native would be even better. Like blackthorn. Do your bit for species diversity and start a mini hedgerow - blackthorn, hawthorn, holly, a lovely wild rose, add bug hotels, a log pile, to help the wildlife out in winter with nectar and in summer with nesting areas, add some ivy, too.

The advantage of all these lovely native plants is that it'll make it impossible for a bad old burglar to wander into your garden, smash or force open the garage window and gain entrance into their property.

Have you ever considered beekeeping or keeping chickens as a hobby, by the way? Or making compost tea? There's probably a perfect place to site a compost heap in your garden. You might even be able to access fresh manure from a stable as well as from the chickens to start the process off - of course, it needs to sit and rot down for some time before it becomes usable.

Areyoufree · 02/01/2020 13:49

If your auto-correct is changing "quotes" to "whores" then it's time to reevaluate your life choices.

TouYube · 02/01/2020 13:52

I don’t like the word whores. That’s why I changed it to sex workers. Yes I know it was an autocorrect. Do you iron your knickers?

Swinesinsleepingbags · 02/01/2020 13:57

I don't like the word whores. It's a horrendous term used to put women in their place. Sex Workers are not whores, to use that term continues to shame and disrespect them.

AvaSnowdrop · 02/01/2020 13:59

Did they apply for planning permission for the garage? I doubt it because it wouldn’t have got passed with windows overlooking your garden. Report then to the council and object about the windows. In the meantime put your own fence across their windows. Make it solid and as tall as possible.

MintyMabel · 02/01/2020 14:03

houses around the £700k mark. This is relevant

Are you suggesting that people who have lower value houses wouldn’t care that the fence was damaged? Or that in not so expensive estates, it’s fine to have trashed fences all over the place? What a horribly snobby attitude.

HaileySherman · 02/01/2020 14:05

Either get some quotes and send them to them or ask if they want you to arra6it for them and they can pay. I imagine their intentions will become clear at that point.

TriangleBingoBongo · 02/01/2020 14:06

Borrow a dog to shit in their garden.

Lipperfromchipper · 02/01/2020 14:10

700k for a house in an estate and all they put between two houses was a poxy fence!! Hmm I would expect a stone wall for those prices!! In fact if I was spending that much on one house it would be rural, detached and with plenty of land!!

TouYube · 02/01/2020 14:45

Mintymabel no of course I’m not suggesting that, and you’re being ridiculous to even insinuate that!!! I was simply making the point that affording two fence panels isn’t an issue.
