Probably being unreasonable - indicating to driver to slow down?

Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 14:18

I am 100% sure I'll be told that I'm an arsehole, but to be honest this day can't get much worse (not just for this reason).

So I was crossing the road. It's a long road - purely residential with 2 schools and one shop. But it's a very straight road.

Obviously, I'm presuming the limit is maybe 50kph. (Don't know as I don't drive here).

So I'm crossing the road and this BOLLOCKS in an SUV comes over the hill doing 80mph if not 90mph. I'm in the middle of the road, so being in bad fucking humour and feeling fucked off in general, I stood still in the middle of the road and waved him down (with the slow down movement). I then tootled across the road. The other small-pricked cunt of a bollocks hoots the horn at me (blasts it for 10 seconds) as he passes me by.

So, jury, which of us was the bigger lunatic? Me trying to direct traffic or the arrogant speeding bastard?

Op you sound ridiculous and even more so with each subsequent post.
Whatever his speed was it’s not up to you as a pedestrian to police it

Yetanotherwinter · 01/01/2020 15:58

I doubt he was doing 80 or 90. If there are shops and schools the speed limit would have likely been 30mph. You are completely stupid for standing still in front of a car which you felt was doing 80 or 90. If he was 300 metres away from you when you first saw him you should have easily been able to continue across the road. Sounds like you were just being an arse.

gamerwidow · 01/01/2020 15:58

I think it's perfectly possible for the OP to a) not know exactly how fast a car was going and b) know when a car is going far too fast.
All this splitting hairs about the exact speed is majorly missing the point.
Unfortunately if someone is arrogant enough to drive at speed in a residential area like that then they will not care about a pedestrian pointing it out to them.

Vulpine · 01/01/2020 15:59

Good on you.

GabsAlot · 01/01/2020 15:59

Youre bu for your own sake you had no idea if his brakes were working or if he was speeding what would you have done if he couldnt stop

DGRossetti · 01/01/2020 16:00

Fuck me there's a lot of apologists for arsehole drivers on here. Sort yourselves out. Car drivers have no right to be speeding.

This is MN. Speeding is not only tolerated, but justified Grin.

hertfordshiremum1984 · 01/01/2020 16:05

YANBU to be annoyed by the speeding but you shouldn't have stood in the path of an oncoming car which was travelling at that speed. You, the driver, or an innocent member of the public could have been killed if the driver had to swerve or brake to avoid hitting you. Yes, the driver might have been an idiot but do you really want to cause a serious road accident and have that on your conscience? It is everyone's responsibility to keep roads safe. You'll find speed freaks everywhere, responding in this way makes you as dangerous as they are.

I took my theory test recently and the official stopping distance of a car travelling at 70mph (they don't offer information on 80mph or 90mph as those speeds are against the law) is 96m - that's 24 car lengths. I doubt he was travelling as fast as you thought he was or you'd of had to get out of the way - and fast!

eveshopper · 01/01/2020 16:07

I’m trying to work out why you have asked if YABU when you are not willing to take anyone else’s comments on board and are simply arguing you are correct. If you are so sure you are right why did you post?

In my experience the best thing to do when a speeding driver is coming towards you is to get the fuck out of the way.

dreamingofmushrooms · 01/01/2020 16:10

You were bonkers to do it, but I take my hat off to you Smile

Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 16:12

I wasn't in the humour of getting out of the way funnily enough!

I fully accept that I was being unreasonable. I don't care though lol.

Getting a bit of a prick overload here

slashlover · 01/01/2020 16:13

unless op is a retard she could tell he was driving dangerously.

WHAT THE FUCK?

Unshriven · 01/01/2020 16:16

Op your posting style makes you very recognisable.

You have many issues.

Just post honestly, instead of sabotaging yourself.

Scarsthelot · 01/01/2020 16:17

Given the fact that op is likely wrong about the speed, really does impact if she is being unreasonable or not.

She has whole scenario worded out, based on the fact that he was excessively speeding.

heartsonacake · 01/01/2020 16:22

YABU and absolutely ridiculous.

You can protest all you want, but there’s no way this driver was going 80/90mph in a built up area, nor was the police car. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Of course he shouldn’t have been speeding, but you were selfish and irresponsible.

Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 16:27

So are you Unshriven. Banned were you?

OP posts:
PullingMySocksUp · 01/01/2020 16:28

People quoting stopping distances as gospel don’t make much sense. These distances are averages. They are less in a car with better brakes.

Unshriven · 01/01/2020 16:31

What? Xmas Grin

You daft eejit.

Post honestly, and stop goading.

supersop60 · 01/01/2020 16:31

I would have probably legged it across the road and shouted/waved afterwards. Speeding drivers piss me right off. I'd guess that the speed limit in a residential area is 30mph, so anyone doing faster than that is a twat.

Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 16:33

You think that a car accelerating down a steep hill with their foot on the accelerator can't reach serious speeds over 300metres/yards? The police cars nearly break the sonic speed here at night when the road is empty.

OP posts:
Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 16:35

Please don't call me a daft eejit.
I'm posting honestly.

OP posts:
Shedidnt · 01/01/2020 16:37

I would have probably legged it across the road and shouted/waved afterwards. That's what I usually do. Today, I literally just wasn't in the humour and couldn't have given two fucks. I was so annoyed with the world in general that I just said in a split second 'FUCK YOU'.

OP posts:
twoheaped · 01/01/2020 16:42

Idiotic thing to do.
No better than an arrogant youth who saunters across the road with a devil may care look on their face.
You are lucky he stopped for you and I doubt he has any idea his ridiculous speed had anything to do with your actions.

eveshopper · 01/01/2020 16:42

The police cars nearly break the sonic speed here at night when the road is empty.

Supersonic? 700+ miles per hour? Or Hypersonic like the hedgehog, 3000+ miles per hour?

PlanDeRaccordement · 01/01/2020 16:48

Madness to stand in the middle of the road and play chicken with oncoming traffic. Doesn’t matter how fast or slow cars are going, the road is not for pedestrians to stand around in the middle of it.
Interesting you admit there were pedestrian crossings only a short distance away from you but apparently you decided not to cross the road on any of them.

Yes, I hate people who speed as well. But I’m not going to dice with death to make a point.
