About Prozac (Fluoxetine) and Fags?!

I am a big stinky old smoker. I’ve never quit for more than 2 years. I smoke about 6 a day and love every one. Honestly it’s really pathetic

Anyyyyway, I was prescribing Prozac for severe PMT (PMDD)

And within a week; I’ve just stopped being remotely bothered..... I’ve just stopped almost as though I forgot about it. And this is over new year when I’ve been drinking a bit! I’ve also gone off food a bit but I knew about that already

AIBU to think that Prozac has actually turned off the faggy switch in my brain? Anyone else??

Hey - similar happened to me when I started anti anxiety meds. Went off booze, food etc - it was like I couldn’t muster any enthusiasm to sort of dedicate space to being excited about it! Ime it got better after a while and I became more interested in stuff again

OP I suffer from PMDD as well.

How is fluoxetine working for you? I was on citalopram which was great but stopped working after about a year. I switched to sertraline but the side effects were unpleasant. Constant hunger, weigh gain and horrifically painful heartburn.

I then got pregnant so came off them altogether.
ds is 1 now and I've got my periods back and not really sure where to go from here.

Ask your gp about escitalopram, it has worked long term for me when citalopram didn't.

It's an isomer so they have changed the chemical arrangement.

Certainly keep looking for something that works, it will be out there.

Keep going OP. That’s one very lucky side effect. I stopped smoking exactly six months ago, when I very suddenly found out I had cancer. It looked initially like a huge lung cancer tumour, but turned out to be in the the mediastinum and much better prognosis.
I was a heavy and avid smoker, who couldn’t imagine giving up. But in a matter of seconds my life spun on its axis and just thought “you fucking fool, you’re going to leave your darling babies without a mother”. So furious in the face of the word cancer. I never touched another one since.

I wish you every strength to never go back.

I think it could be the Prozac. When I started on it I suddenly stopped biting my fingernails. I didn't plan to, just could I wasn't doing it any more.

I'm not sure that"American Fag" is all that good an example of the word being ok, because of who is using it there.

Hello op that's great! I was prescribed zyban about 13 years ago for smoking cessation, it worked a treat. The original use was as an anti depressant, while trialling it they found that the anti depressant effects were ok, but all the smokers it was tested on had quit! The dose for smoking cessation was half what they had tested as an AD.

So there you go- keep going with the Alan Carr and stick with it, and hope you feel better generally.

I just don't understand why it's kicked in after a week when you're not supposed to feel any benefits before a month?

For the smoking cessation they said a week or 2, maybe quicker than for mood...

It was weird they said don't try to stop, I kept at it, but found myself stubbing the fags out halfway through as it was just meh.

Showed up totally how right Allen Carr was about it being nicotine addiction and all the other 'reasons' were not actually reasons at all!
