...while also feeling very sad for poor Michael Hutchence?

I hadn’t realised how young he was when he died.
I had no idea about his accident.
And what a sad childhood.

Anyone else relived their lost youth after watching it?

I watched it and bar the sometimes erratic timeline, found it fascinating.

And after it was broadcast Noel Gallagher was trending on Twitter!

Pinkarsedfly · 30/12/2019 19:25

God, wasn’t he an arsehole for saying that?

Cocaine is nobody’s friend.

Yes it was a sad life.
I always assumed drugs caused his demise. I have so much respect for Helena and Bono for keeping his head injury to themselves.
I honestly believe now that he did intend to commit suicide, before this I thought it was a sex thing gone wrong.
And I think Noel and his comments had a part to play, Hutchence’s body language on that clip was very telling.

MuchBetterNow · 30/12/2019 19:30

I think he'd still be alive if he hadn't got sucked into the Yates/Geldof shitshow

GooseberryJam · 30/12/2019 19:34

What channel was this on? Would really like to see it.
I read somewhere years ago that New Sensation was about death and dealing with bereavement (not the more obvious idea that it's about sex) and that makes total sense and always comes back to me when I hear it. Can't find the source of it now but it was said in a band interview or somesuch. Poignant after Hutchence's death.

Redcrayons · 30/12/2019 19:37

@GooseberryJam it was on BBc2 last night. Try iPlayer.

Agree

Hadn't had a high opinion of Gallagher before, but his comment was vile

jakeyboy1 · 30/12/2019 19:41

I watched it on a plane a while ago and thought it was really interesting - especially to get the Australian perspective and not the lines that Paula fed the press over here.

SprinklesMcDoodles · 30/12/2019 19:41

I always loved Michael Hutchence. It's so sad his daughter never got to know him.

Snuffkindle · 30/12/2019 20:03

Just watched it. It was so sad in many ways, he was lovely. The Noel Gallagher thing was so upsetting.

rugbychick1 · 30/12/2019 20:07

Like OverByYer, I'd been led to believe it was a sex act gone wrong, but now it makes perfect sense that he'd had a brain injury, plus the whole Yates/Geldof thing drove him to the edge. So very sad.

Along with Freddie Mercury/Queen and George Michael, INXS are one of the bands I would have loved to have seen live, but never will.

A very interesting documentary though.

Headinthedrawer · 30/12/2019 20:30

Kylie was gorgeous in it too...so natural.Saw a totally different side to her than her pop persona. The footage of them together was lovely to watch. Terribly sad. Also reminded me of what a talent he was.The Gallagher comment was vile and he should be ashamed.

Pinkarsedfly · 30/12/2019 20:36

I respect Helena Christensen for keeping quiet about his injury, but I do think she should have called a doctor when he spent a month puking afterwards.

Pinkarsedfly · 30/12/2019 20:37

I think he was Kylie’s One That Got Away.

She’s never married has she?

Pinkarsedfly · 30/12/2019 20:37

Wasn’t he a beautiful child?

The irony of Gallagher going on about “going to bes’ in 1996. Well by 1996 Oasis’s most successful days were already behind them. They never recaptured the success of the first two albums.

anascrecca · 30/12/2019 20:43

It was so sad, I couldn't watch it all. Turned back on 20 minutes in to the concert. I loved him and he was even more gorgeous than I remember. I hope his daughter turned out ok.

MuchBetterNow · 30/12/2019 20:43

Noel Gallagher is a talentless tool who got very very lucky.

Todaythiscouldbe · 30/12/2019 21:04

It was heartbreaking. I was lucky enough to be at the SummerXS concert and his talent and charisma were amazing. So sad he didn't get the help and support he so desperately needed.

OverByYer · 30/12/2019 21:09

Yes I think Paula was the catalyst for his downfall, getting embroiled in her marriage break up and custody issues triggered the end for him.
He seemed very loving in all his relationships and yearned for a loving normal family life.

OverByYer · 30/12/2019 21:10

And Noel Gallagher is a complete prick. Who’s the has been now?

dayswithaY · 30/12/2019 21:21

I watched the Liam Gallagher film last night and I was struck by how similar they were. Both rock stars, drug issues, fame, falling out with band mates, failed relationships, tons of drama. But despite everything, Liam is still going strong. I think the difference is Michael was a sensitive soul, prone to self analysis and Liam definitely isn't. Some people are just too fragile for this world. The brain injury breaks my heart.

I never paid much attention to INXS at the time but now I think their music is amazing and Michael was so beautiful. I always loved Paula but they should never, ever have got together.

I think there was a back story with what Noel said to him at the Brits as it was so vicious. Something to do with Patsy Kensit?

Pinkarsedfly · 30/12/2019 21:25

Todaythiscouldbe I was there too. It was amazing.

OP posts:
Patroclus · 30/12/2019 21:33

Some bullshit over Patsy Kensit and Paula Yates, and to be fair he did throw a fire extinguisher at Noel Gallagher

dayswithaY · 30/12/2019 22:14

I remember watching the Brits when Noel made that comment, no one cared, it was just typical Oasis behaviour. Now on Twitter, people are losing their shit over it and suggesting it contributed to
Michael 's death - nonsense! Blame the taxi driver first.
