Health anxiety going wild at the moment. Streaks of red in poo. Could this be tomatoe I ate on Saturday? Apologies for question

Is the blood bright red or does it look darker (dried)?

LIZS · 30/12/2019 15:09

Pieces of skin possibly yes.

Somethingsosimple · 30/12/2019 15:10

Yes, it could be tomato skin you at on Saturday

janebee4 · 30/12/2019 15:15

Could be the tomato skin, could be an anal fissure/piles. If you're worried see the doctor but I would probably wait to see what the next poo looks like and if it looks the same.

LakieLady · 30/12/2019 15:21

Yep, tomato skin. It seems almost indestructible imo.

I always chew my food thoroughly, but there have been many times when a bout of migraine-induced vomiting has produced perfectly intact tomato skin.

Seems like you are a bit over invested in what your poo looks like! Does people really examine their bowel movements every time and worry about whether a bit of red is tomato or blood? Personally I just go to the toilet and flush it away without close examination, and go about my day without giving it a second thought. If there was anything seriously wrong I'm sure there would be other symptoms.

42isthemeaning · 30/12/2019 15:56

Yes it could be tomatoes or red peppers in my experience. If you see any more or feel worried then go see a gp.

JulietTango · 30/12/2019 16:05

Yes I get little bits of red in my poo after eating tomatoes for ages afterwards.

cantfindname · 30/12/2019 16:05

Tomatoes at the moment seem to have very tough and thick skins. I can barely cut them so it wouldn't surprise me if that's what you saw.

Somethingsosimple · 30/12/2019 16:38

Thanks everyone. I will try and calm down and enjoy the rest of the kids holiday. I’m on a antidepressants at the moment but trying to cut down. I will keep an eye out and maybe cut out red food for a while.

I think it would have appeared yesterday, unless you have very slow digestion. Most of the time red streaks aren't what you think, but you should go to the GP and get it checked out.

Is it on the tissue? Can you poke it?
