I am wondering about any that are contemplating pregnancy at a time when the world weather is in crisis, fires ranging out of control across Aus, also california, and others. Floods regularly now around the UK, tornados even and more extreme weather generally, a summer just gone with record heatwave temps.

Many are making a decision to not start a family as the continuing viability of life on earth is ever more unsure.

Half a billion animals killed in the Aus fires alone. People having to lock themselves indoors and residents considering leaving Aus for good.

Is it U to consider bringing future children into this?

I am not 'doom-mongering', being 'hysterical' or any of the other labels that some pp have chosen to level at me

Myself and many have concerns about what is happening now and how the world temp is rising beyond our ability to slow or stop it.

There is evidence of the devastating effects of this.

Now if someone were to say, which I've not heard to date, that all this will be stopped (in fact the opposite oir efforts are not working and have not reversed or necessarily slowed anything), then there would only be a need to be mindful of continuing to be as environmentally responsible as each of us can, and to influence laws controlling manufacture and power use.

Reading one person's view is not science, but I will read through it anyway.

It it's based on evidence of course it is? What do you think science is? Hmm

Question OP - are climate and weather the same?

TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 18:45

What do you think titchy?

Do you believe no such thing as climate change, or perhaps that we can be in control of it?

OP posts:
Newmetoday · 31/12/2019 19:04

There is climate change. It’s happened before and no, we can’t be in control of it as it’s natural. The climate was always going to change

TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 19:06

What are you meaning in saying that, we all know its happened across time.

OP posts:
TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 19:08

There is an article from the guardian below disgusting Mark and staying that he knighthood the rich what they want to hear.

Can you explain this para so its understandable, there's some typos crept in?

OP posts:
Newmetoday · 31/12/2019 19:09

You seem to think we can stop it. We can’t. Humans can’t control the climate

TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 19:11

You think that I believe we can stop it? Oh well

Those dinosaurs are regretting generating all of those carbon emissions and bringing upon their extinction. In reality we are a planet, changes happen. Much more concerned about the damage we are doing to the oceans, to wildlife, to the land which we need for crops, and the crap we are entering into the food cycle such as microplastics. I think countries, communities and individuals need to act to carry out the changes needed, but the climate isn't something to panic about. Afterall the sun is going to explode one day, just as all stars do.

TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 19:27

So you're happy we keep bringing children into this or no, Dubya?

OP posts:
TruthOnTrial · 31/12/2019 19:28

In full knowledge, I mean, in a way dinosaurs are ignorant of.

OP posts:
Besidesthepoint · 31/12/2019 19:40

So what do you do yourself OP? Because I live in a village where all the kids are followers of Greta Tunberg but apparantly it is ok to set off fireworks and learn how to drive cars. I'm sick and tired of people telling me what I should do, but who happily go on polluting themselves.

Dubya · 31/12/2019 19:42

Yep, I don't think it's time to throw in the towel yet. Humans are destructive beasts, but there's also hope, and the world is still an extremely beautiful place with many compassionate people in it. I don't feel the need for everyone to have loads of children, no; but one or a few, yes. The planet might explode tomorrow into a ball of nothingness, or the weather might go absolutely wild and life becomes more of a struggle, but life is still incredible, and the years you do have are important. Just my view.

titchy · 31/12/2019 19:44

What do you think titchy?

I already said I believe man-made climate change is happening.

titchy · 31/12/2019 19:48

I repeat my question - do you understand the difference between weather and climate?

Dusty01 · 31/12/2019 20:00

I think we will evolve and adapt. I was actually thinking today before reading this that I wish I could be alive in 100 years time.

I think currently air quality and so much more is worrying. But we will turn things around and the world will become a much better place.

Humans will be forced to respect and live closer to nature. We will have to give up capitalism and materialism.

I’d much rather live in the future.

Dusty01 · 31/12/2019 20:02

However I think all families should stay small. We need less humans to make to world a better place.

Ipigglemustdie · 31/12/2019 20:06

Oh fuck off greta. If the only way to save the world is for us all to stop reproducing and for the human race to die off then bollocks to the world it goes down with us. We endure adapt and survive. Or we go out fighting. Enough of this fake noble we're not worthy virtue signalling bullshit.

lynsey91 · 31/12/2019 20:25

Me and DH decided 40 years ago not to have children as we both felt the world was already overpopulated plus a pretty shit place to bring children into.

It has only got worse and I must admit I am pretty amazed that anyone thinks having a child is a good idea.

doublebarrellednurse · 31/12/2019 20:28

If people didn't have kids during the war, during the Cold War, the Great Depression, during civil unrest and during the many periods of unrest and depression in the world then we wouldn't be here now.

There will always be negatives in the world but there are some wonderful things too.

Jillyhilly · 31/12/2019 20:43

Me and DH decided 40 years ago not to have children as we both felt the world was already overpopulated plus a pretty shit place to bring children into.

When or where exactly would you prefer to have lived? Or has the world always been a pretty shit place, in your opinion?

lynsey91 · 31/12/2019 20:57

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at so many posters saying they never even thought about it when they decided to have their 1, 2, 3, 4 or even more children!

Don't any of you care about the future your children will likely face? Rising water levels, food shortages, climate change are the big ones but. in the UK, what about never being able to buy a property and likely struggling just to afford to rent, not enough work, the massive divide between the rich and the poor which will likely get even wider, roads likely gridlocked.

People tell childfree by choice women they are selfish when surely having a child today is the most selfish thing you could do

MrsExpo · 31/12/2019 21:02

I am childless. The future of the earth was one factor in my decision in that regard. WE have too many people and insufficient resources to support them.

Dubya · 31/12/2019 21:10

@lynsey91 I'm not saying it's right, but when was this magical time where there was no disparity between rich and poor? Where the standard of living was super high for everyone? There's definitely more opportunities for social mobility now then there was, for sure. I don't think childfree women are selfish, any reason whatsoever is enough to not have them, if that's what you want; the default is to be childfree after all, it's more logical to look at why people DO have children. I don't think it's necessarily selfish though to have a child, do you regret your parents having you? Even though the world has never been perfect?

nicky7654 · 31/12/2019 21:15

We have had 5 ice ages so what do you think caused them? There has always been climate change and always will be. The desert used to be tropical forests, coal is found in the sea! Our Earth used to be joined together but climate broke it up to how it looks like now roughly. Stop the drama.
