I am wondering about any that are contemplating pregnancy at a time when the world weather is in crisis, fires ranging out of control across Aus, also california, and others. Floods regularly now around the UK, tornados even and more extreme weather generally, a summer just gone with record heatwave temps.

Many are making a decision to not start a family as the continuing viability of life on earth is ever more unsure.

Half a billion animals killed in the Aus fires alone. People having to lock themselves indoors and residents considering leaving Aus for good.

Is it U to consider bringing future children into this?

It’s the older generations that have ruined it

Do you mean the people that invented nuclear power, wind turbines, solar panels and recycling?

Mintjulia · 04/01/2020 20:08

You mean the older generation who hoard & reuse, and grow their own veg, and go on holiday in the UK. The ones who put sweaters on rather than turn up the heating, and cook from scratch.

Yes, they’re really wasteful !Hmm

mencken · 05/01/2020 18:33

yeah, as opposed to the thickly-made-up, uselessly clad in their new cars, sitting outside the schools with their engines running, gazing zombie like at their brand new brickphone....

no, they can't possibly be the wasteful ones.

The problem with sweeping statements is they are easy to dismiss. The central heating in older members of my family is set at tropical levels with short sleeves the norm through the winter months, cars are driven for short trips, buses rarely taken, overseas holidays are booked regularly.

Hoarding isn’t a virtue either.

The hottest decade ever.

Freezing in India
Europe wide extreme heatwaves last summer
Floods all over uk
Months of fires across unprecedented amount of land in aus
The tundras permafrost melting will release more co2 and methane than the whole planet burning three times over.

How can anyone still not believe that this climate change is just a natural process? The news is like something out of a disaster film.

Russellbrandshair · 16/01/2020 08:23

I think a lot people need to put down their rose tinted glasses. Yes we need to take action on climate change, but this idea that the world was a “safe” place years ago is a blatant stupid lie. What about world war 1 and 2? What about women dying frequently in childbirth and kids rarely making it beyond their 5th birthday due to poor hygiene and childhood illnesses? What about the death penalty and people throwing their toilet waste into the streets? What about the routine and regular violence and poverty that occurred on a regular basis years ago if you weren’t one of the rich ruling classes, what about the fact there was no childline and child abuse was regularly hushed up? What about women’s rights and the fact women couldn’t vote and were seen as “property” of their husbands? I could go on and on and on. The idea that this world has ever been safe and secure is utter BS. People have kids because it is a biological and primal impulse and it won’t stop.

Haha! Nonsense. I work with the elderly and every house I’ve been to has been heated like a fcking sauna. I sweat whilst they tell me they’re “cold”. Plus cook from scratch?! Most of the elderly people I visit have microwave meals with lots of packaging. None of them “grow their own veg”.
This isn’t a bash btw- I love my clients. But the idea that all people over 65 are tree-hugging eco warriors is a crock.

TruthOnTrial · 18/01/2020 00:46

I'm not sure that 'older generation' should be read as 'elderly' at all!

The elderly do need a lot more warmth because of inactivity.

I'd assumed older generation meant the next up generation, i.e. parents!

The kids are busy with continuous device use, high turnover new clothes, plastics in beauty products, throw away, but their parents are not. Is how I read it.
