I am currently laid up in bed feeling like utter garbage, spent last night being sick so I'm exhausted but can't sleep.
Anyway - as you can imagine I'm pretty bored (DH is staying away from me in case I've got a virus apart from to bring me water) so WIBU to ask for your Christmas CF stories to keep me entertertained?

These are amazing stories and I feel so bad for all of you.

At the very least, who turns up to any meal at someone else's house, let alone Christmas lunch, empty-handed? Such CFery.

BloggersBlog · 05/01/2020 22:20

What did you reply to him @Kate0902900908? Shock

ChocoChunk1 · 05/01/2020 22:27

FIL cannot drink following a stroke last year, but it didn’t stop BIL getting him a massive bottle of single malt for Christmas. Yes, he’s been told a million times, but BIL doesn’t listen, and get really annoyed when we ask wtf is he playing at?

Kate0902900908 · 05/01/2020 22:53

@BloggersBlog
My husband text back
Your billing us? Haha we've got a bill for you... Everything from the last +weeks of free living 😂

We've yet to hear back 😂

Brilliant response Grin

My Dear Mother (not) bought me a Lime Green bra. That was horrific enough. However, she actually excelled herself! Not only was it Lime Green, it was also the wrong size. She said "Oh! Happy Birthday by the way". She handed over my birthday "gift", which was in a brown paper bag. I looked inside the bag, and not only was it Lime Green, and the wrong size, it was also still grubby, from the last person who'd worn it. I try to not be unkind.I dislike unkindness, immensely. Sadly, my mother thrived on it. She passed that on, to my siblings, but I managed to escape. I eventually had a boob job, and now, I could, if I wanted, fit into a Lime Green bra. Should I want to. Which I don't. And now, she's a deader. Poor thing.

FallenAngel01 · 06/01/2020 07:10

That's really unkind, isn't it? I'm not sorry about it. My "mother" was unkind. Not gentle, and didn't step up, when dad got up very early in the morning to visit me. I had 3 alarm clocks, to help wake me up - I'm such a deep sleeper - the clocks were placed around my room, and set for 10 minute intervals. He got round that, obviously.. He's dead as well. Just as it should be.

FallenAngel01 · 06/01/2020 07:13

No regrets. I do not like unkindness.

Regarding feeding cf guests.
Dd suggested yesterday that next year I send invites with a menu price list!!
To deter unwanted cf guest from this year.
Turned up late for full English breakfast but expected it still made. I refused.
Announced he was ill anyway so wasn't having lunch. Reorganised the tables and seating - made it easier as less squashed..
After a few coffees and cake he decided he was having lunch. Table back to squished mode. Announced had I remembered he wasn't actually doing Xmas? Dc got nothing. I didn't even get a card.. He opened all his gifts (some he chose as brand specific, some by me and dc)alone and left the ones he didn't want under a table. Ate lunch and more cake. Announced he would return on the 27th with his for their gifts!!

Brefugee · 06/01/2020 15:14

what happened on 27th?

Cherrysoup · 06/01/2020 15:55

@Kate0902900908

That’s beyond cheeky of him! I’d have gone a step further and given him an invoice for 3 weeks’ worth of hotel full board. He’s disgraceful to ask you for money, what a joke!

Whynosnowyet · 06/01/2020 16:48

27th arrived with dc from hell being in usual foul mood. Always excused as being tired /half awake /half asleep /hungry /thirsty.. No just an awful unparented dc. Opened gifts but wanted my dc's. Guest trying to placate him with promises of buying them on the way home!!
Assertive me made new year resolution to be less availabile for visits.

MisfitNinja · 10/01/2020 17:29

My ex husband made no effort to see our dd in the run up to Christmas despite being off work and living 10 minutes away from us.

He turned up Christmas morning with a knock off Elsa doll and cheap Frozen themed chocolate for her.

Then ore refer to brag about how he had got his new gfs kids a Nintendo switch.

He stayed for 15 minutes then left.

I’m trying to just be grateful he got our dd anything at all and know that she doesn’t go without because of myself and my family.

BlueJava · 10/01/2020 17:40

Not CF-ery and not this year. But my MIL and FIL came to us for Christmas dinner one year. I'd put in loads of effort with all the trimmings. We sat down to eat and MIL said "OH!"...big pause... "Didn't tell you I'm vegetarian now?" I said no he hadn't. I looked at DH and she then said "Yes, I became vegetarian on 23rd December!" To his credit DH told her to help herself to whatever she could find in the kitchen. FIL enjoyed dinner though :)

Weenurse · 11/01/2020 00:11

@BlueJava how long did she stay veggie?

Ilady · 11/01/2020 05:12

I have enjoyed reading the stories here.
Dsil handed my friend a present. It was cheap bath set with the gift tag saying happy Xmas to dsil name from X,y and z. After this my friend convently forgot dsil and her kids birthdays. Dsil and husband have a high monthly income so no excuse for this CF.

The best CF I heard was a couple who invited in-laws along with their various boyfriends and girlfriends over for Xmas dinner every year. One year one of them arrived at midday with other half who there were seeing for a few months. Other half had already alcohol drunk and drank for most of the day. Oh then went to the toilet but ended up throwing up in the room next to the bathroom. This was only discovered a few days later due to a horrible smell. It was horrible to deal with then
Husband told his wife that in-laws were no longer coming over the following Xmas day. They came, eat all around them, asked for more of everything, drink as much alcohol as possible and would not bring as much as a cheap bottle of wine.

BlueJava · 11/01/2020 10:17

@Weenurse she tells us she is still veggie but if we have a meal where there are other options on the table I notice she will eat them (but I never say anything). The last time she visited we had an Indian takeaway and she chose veggie options, but our DS chose a chicken dish - which she ate! If she's pulled up on it (by DH because I never say anything) she will say she's made a mistake! I'm quite laid back and never want to cause trouble so I stay quiet but it makes me laugh to see some of the antics.

This week at work we were discussing our Christmas break as it was the first time everyone was in the office. One of the juniors told us that normally her and her boyfriend go to her parents for Christmas as his parents are Always abroad. This year, his parents offered them a 2 week holiday to Spain to join them at their holiday home on the agreement that would be their (very generous) Christmas present.

They arrive and are promptly given a bill for their flights, food and "contribution" to the house for the 2 weeks despite the original agreement. The girl checks with her boyfriend to see if there's been some misunderstanding but he's none the wiser and to keep the peace suggests that they just pay. The rest of the holiday was just the parents refusing to buy anything as "they extended the invite so should be treated".

Suffice to say, the parents didn't refuse or return the presents they received from them and it's left a very sour taste in my colleagues mouth.
