To buy a size down in the hope of losing weight

I know clothes sizes vary by shop, but...

I'm probably a 14 or Large on top. Bought some lovely cosy knit jumpers but in a Medium as reviews said they came up big. They actually fit quite well but would hang better around the hips if I lost a few pounds.

I have been steadily losing weight (2 stone so far) and want to lose another 2.5, possibly 3 stone.

Would it be ridiculous to exchange them for the Small in the hope that I will lose more weight and fit into them?

I want to be able to wear them for the next few years (when I will hopefully be thinner) but maybe too much like wishful thinking 😂

Never a good idea. Just means you wont enjoy them now, and your taste or the season may have changed by the time you lose the weight.

Because you said jumpers I'm assuming you bought mor than one? Maybe exchange half of them for smaller sizes. That way you can enjoy the other half now and then next year you can enjoy the other half

I think it can work for some people to have a goal towards but it depends on your mindset/will power, if you don’t meet that goal then you’ve just bought something you can’t wear (at least for now), that money could’ve gone on something else and you then have a reminder hanging in your wardrobe that you didn’t reach the goal you wanted. Personally I think it’s a bit risky.

YABU. Love yourself as you are now and dress your body well just as it is. When you've lost more weight you can get some more new ones! You'll definitely deserve it.

@twogeniesinabottle The same jumper in two different colours!

Dress for your body now, as your shape changes you will want to shop again. Love who you are

I would keep the jumpers in a medium

Firstly you don’t know exactly when you’ll fit the small size, what if jumper season passes and you don’t get any wear out of them?

Secondly oversized jumpers look good, so if/when you do lose the weight, the medium jumpers will still look nice on

You've already said the medium would fit better if you lost a few pounds. If you buy the small you wouldn't be able to wear them just now at all (and maybe never)
