To take the DC on holiday to Dubai?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/12/2019 14:16

We have two DC, 14 and 9. We've travelled fairly regularly with them but haven't ever done anywhere like Dubai/UAE. DH has found some summer holidays in those areas but I have a little weird feeling about going there - no idea why, no rational reason, I'm just uneasy but can't really put it into words.

Would you go there with DC? Have you been there with DC? Is it somewhere you'd be willing to visit?

We missed our connecting flight through Qatar last August and got put up in a hotel overnight. We got in at 2am and the heat then was so oppressive.

We've been to Dubai lots of times with the kids. We usually stay in a resort and the kids have a great time. If you're going in our summer time, be careful July and August is very hot. However, we compensated that by having lots of time in the water and by having trips out. You can even go skiing!

We have booked Dubai for next summer to go with dd4, we are also going with other family including a few other kids aged 3-13 and after looking into it there is plenty to do with children of all ages.

Do you know how bloody hot it will be !

We went at the begining of May one year it was far too hot then...we spent all our time submerged in the water park ...

Not a typical beach holiday I guess as women have to be covered up?

No they don't on the resorts. Same as any other beach holiday. Westerners can dress how they like on the resorts but always best to cover shoulders and stay knee length when going to the malls.

Love Dubai and Abu Dhabi for holidays. Not in the summer though. We did it once thinking "well how bad can it be?" Pretty bad it turned out. My four year old cried every time we had to leave air con areas. I'd never go at that time of year again.

Dubai looks amazing with absolutely loads to do for children but I'd visit in winter and not in Summer due to the heat.

I know quite a few people who've been and they've all loved it.

IcedPurple · 29/12/2019 14:49

You can even go skiing!

Artificial snow in an artificial environment. If you want to ski, why not go to Switzerland or Austria and get the real thing?

UndertheCedartree · 29/12/2019 14:51

@wendy - thanks for that. I can imagine it a bit better now!

RJnomore1 · 29/12/2019 14:53

Wouldn’t dream of going on the basis of their human rights record. No way would I want to co tribute to that way of living any more than I have to.( It’s also totally manufactured crap I don’t get the appeal of, I’m not into beaches and shopping on holiday)

We stop over for a few days yearly enroute to our final destination. We have two kids - both below 5. My friend lives there so we visit them.

user1487194234 · 29/12/2019 14:57

I wouldn't go and neither would my children

Passthebubbly · 29/12/2019 14:58

Likewise we had a 3 day stop with kids on return from holiday as my friend lives there would never ever return. I just hated it. Far too much exaggeration everything seems fake it just did not appeal to me in the slightest though my friend loves living there.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 29/12/2019 14:59

I would certainly not visit a country which has such a backward way of thinking. Especially with children,

drivingtofrance · 29/12/2019 15:02

No. I will never go to a country with such awful human rights issues. And where women are nothing.

Plenty of other places to visit.

Foodielady · 29/12/2019 15:05

Very safe place - I've lived here for 15 years, both children born here. Lots to do here both on and on the beach. No need to cover at all - just dress modestly in the malls (ie, not beachwear). Summer is ridiculously hot though - temps are 45 in the day and a minimum of 30 at night and it can be very humid. That said, everywhere is air conditioned and hotel pools are chilled.

BonfireStarter · 29/12/2019 15:05

If you dont care about womens rights or human rights you'll be happy there.

There are a lot better places to go where you and your family will be safe and have a good time, without funding a state that's happy to abuse people.

Daisy7654 · 29/12/2019 15:06

I definitely wouldn't go. I once contributed to a croudfunder for a stranger that was:
A young woman in her twenties had been raped and went to the police. They arrested HER (for sex outside marriage) and ignored him. It took an international outcry and thousands of £££ in legal fees to get her home.
Awful place.

BonnyConnie · 29/12/2019 15:08

I try to avoid countries with evil governments. Just doesn’t seem appropriate when there are so many nice places you can go.

Luaa · 29/12/2019 15:09

I wouldn't go because I wouldn't want to support their economy in anyway, for reasons many other pps have said.

Nanamilly · 29/12/2019 15:09

Not a typical beach holiday I guess as women have to be covered up?

Thats not the case.

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 29/12/2019 15:09

I went to dubai 10 years ago and loved it. The mistake we made was going in august. It was fuckin boiling. 50 degrees out in the open and 45 degrees in the shade.

If you feel uneasy though then I wouldn't go, theres plenty of other places to go!

EachandEveryone · 29/12/2019 15:10

And they are wicked to animals I couldn’t stand it

FreyaMountstuart · 29/12/2019 15:10

Do you realise how hot it is in summer - up to 45 degrees but with up to 90% humidity! Best time to visit is October - May (and possibly June) - you have been warned!

Cravingcake · 29/12/2019 15:14

I have been lucky enough to go on holiday twice there this year! We went in January and temperatures were around mid 20’s, we also went to another part in October and it was HOT! It was 45 degrees by the pool every day & 30 at night but we love the sun and heat so it was ok. We went with our 2 DC (aged 7 & 5) and never felt un-welcome, I always carried a lightweight scarf when we went out of our resort just in case I felt the need to cover up but never did, just dress sensibly/modestly and it’s fine. It was incredibly expensive though - a pint or glass of wine was about £14 in the hotels and this was the same staying on The Palm and also out at another emirate.

coffeeoclock · 29/12/2019 15:15

I would go personally, it looks stunning and loads to do with kids as well. Just keep low and don't do many high risk things (like out late at night drinking etc).
