To ask how much to spend on friends birthday?

Usually for friends we buy each other small token gifts up to £10, some groups of friends we go out for meal and everyone else splits the birthday persons share of the bill
One of my friends has a big birthday coming up let’s say 50
I’ve bought her a new purse (from a brand I know she loves and has a matching handbag)
Purse itself cost around £20
I would quite like to put say £50 in it for her to treat herself (she doesn’t have much money)
I don’t want to embarrass her though nor make her feel she has to spend more on me
How much would you put in?

If you have the money spare put or on. Be clear it's because of an important birthday and you have no expectations going forward

Definitely do this. I would be very happy 😊. I've heard it's bad luck to give a purse without money anyway 😁
